Just having a think about our garage set up. We're having a solar battery and inverter installed inside and I'm going to ask them to add a second RJ45, as no better time. And then bung a small PoE switch in there - any recommendations? A ceiling mounted AP in there should cover the garden which still remains a bit of a dead zone as well as the garage itself. And if we ever turn it into a work space in the future, we'll be ready.

It’s WiFi for the garage and garden and it seems general coverage is the primary purpose of the AP.
The OP didn’t specify any high bandwidth requirements (not sure what high bandwidth application you’d even have) so why spend 60% more money on something you don’t really need?
WiFi 7 will probably have been depreciated before you have worked out what that requirement even is and we will be on WiFi 8/9/10 by that point.
I was going to ask about not having a 6Ghz radio but in all honesty, just having a good connection for the garage and better coverage for the garden is absolutely fine. And having a few spare 1-2.5Gb ports (depending on which switch) will be a bonus.

prob with the G4 pro and mounting on brickwork, you need the mount, which makes it stick out even further.You can still get 600-800mb+ on the combined 2.4 and 5ghz spectrum on WiFi 7 without and input from the 6ghz spectrum.
I mean, I get those kinds of speeds on WiFi 6 from my phone. How fast do you need it to go?
The U7-IW could be an option? Not tried one yet but I have just ordered, kind of similar requirements to you. Has a couple of spare ports with one supporting POE
That's plenty. Not sure I can justify spending >£200 just to get 6Ghz in the garage. I think I have a spare Unifi WiFi 5 AP in the attic so that could be an even cheaper option.

For garden/garage Wi-Fi, that should be perfectly fine. I have a FlexHD on my soffit which covers said areas, max about 400-450 but it's literally for IG, browsing, music streaming etc, and all works without issue.

Bit of a tidy up still needed. Need to move a couple of the keystones, And refit the light bulb... Had to drill some holes to move the brackets to fit the new switch in, as its proper deep.. Which thenled me to looking at the Unifi racks, The slim is out of stock so not buying anything....................................Yet..Well apart from some patch panel blanks with the through holes

I can't comment on that specifically but I had the older model as my introduction into Unifi. A great device all round, with concrete walls - it did struggle filling the whole place but think I added an extra AP with wired backhaul to cover the rest. If you want a reasonably priced all in one with a few ports for upgrades and bonuses like 2.5 GbE WAN and a 10 GbE LAN - I think it's a decent solution.

Had one since they came out pretty much mate. Been rock solid for me (replaced an Asus router). I do have a U7 Pro Wall upstairs as I wanted a bit more coverage but I can't fault it.
Hmm got a flex 2.5gb switch and it doesn't come with a power adapter.. apparently.
Anyway it isn't the end of the world as I quite would prefer to power it over poe+++ - does anyone know if I connect it via ethernet for the power, can I connect the 10gb port over sfp+ and just ignore traffic on the ethernet link (to avoid a spanning tree thingummy)?
Edit: turns out yes you can. Don't need to do any config at all; switch is powered over poe, and running the 10gbE link over the fibre
