*** The Official iOS and iPadOS 26 Thread ***

I ask this every time. But I just enable beta. Installl it. Then turn the beta back to “off” right ? Wish they’d just called it RC if it’s finalized.

Nevermind. Done and done.
I know you've done it, but yep.

EDIT: There's still a chance of a second RC so may need a flick back to beta if it releases before public launch, or just update again on public launch day.

yeah their own cases have NFC chips in. It knows its got an official case attatched.

I think the official wallets have some kinda animation too when magsafed

So if I install this latest release on my iPhone or iPad now, will it be the same as the official release next week.

Can I install and then leave the beta straight after?

If you install the RC and leave the beta then the previous release of IOS will be restored. Just leave it in beta until iOS 26 is officially released then turn it off
Not true, you can toggle off the beta after it’s installed and unenrol from the beta and it will just stay on the release channel from then on.

Exactly what I've done now. Jumped on public beta, got the RC last night, and turned off beta again. I've not been made to go back, and never have before.

There's always the risk of the public release of 26 being slightly different to this RC, of course, but that'll just be a normal update on release day.

That's weird. I must be doing something wrong then as every time I've toggled off the beta button in Software Updates, my iPad has reverted to the previous iOS. Is this a new thing?

Even a factory reset won’t restore a previous version of iOS, it’s actually fairly difficult to do so and requires connecting to a computer and downloading the ipsw file of the version you want to downgrade to.

Anyone else finding the RC quite stuttery? Using a 16 Pro. Notice it quite a bit in Safari but also seeing it whilst swiping through the home screen. Do like some of the new animations but it’s taking some getting used to compared to 18. Might drop back to 18 and see how 26 goes after the public release.

Edit: Back on 18.6.2. Couldn’t be doing with the stuttering.

I’ll echo this. I had to do this a month or two back. Because the battery drain on iOS 26 was quite bad on my phone at the time. Had to use a pc and recovery mode on the phone.

I’ve installed the rc by enabling beta > installing it > turning beta branch off.

Will keep an eye on the beta branch in case there is one more update before official release though.

Just put it on my iPad Pro, little stuttery at times, but I think that’s due to just updating and it’s doing stuff in the background.
I like the slightly new design for the movie tiles in my library, look better than the horizontal design we had before and the tiles show the movie length as well.

Dark mode sure does show off the Liquid Glass design better for the apps. Yeah I’m one of them odd people that use light mode during the day and dark mode at night.

Anyone know how to disable phone app on iPad? Just noticed this after updating, I can only remove app from Home Screen, is there a disable feature like with iMessage.
