Borderlands 4 (2025)

******* hell, this game is a time vortex! I feel like I just blinked *poof* evening has gone.
Solid game so far, its borderlands so kinda knew what we were getting. Cant say I've had any performance issues, everything turned up, set to x2 FG and no complaints 7800x3d/5070ti.
Same for me, I've just looked at the clock and 5 hours has gone? Where the bejesus did that go

noticing a lack of loading screens as well, i guess it is a bit open worldy and explains where some of the power is going :D

I bought it, never played a BL game. Running on very high, 4K, DLSS with 2x frame gen and getting completely smooth gameplay and it looks great. I really don't understand some people's issue with DLSS/FG. There's no noticeable input delay and it looks amazing.

Gunplay is fun so far, not fully invested yet as I've only played 30 mins and need to go to bed now. Promising start though.

First thoughts, after just under 2 hours:
  • It's Borderlands. Basic gameflow and gunplay are exactly what you'd expect. If you liked the feel of Borderlands before, you'll like this. If you didn't, you won't.
  • Visuals are a little underwhelming (the Borderlands style doesn't really scale well and this doesn't look that much better than BL2), but performance has been fine for me. YMMV.
  • Thought I had a weird frame-pacing issue, but turning off the framerate cap made it go away.
  • It's hard! Like... back to Borderlands 1 difficulty. The first proper boss after the tutorial area kicked my arse a few times, on the middle of three difficulties. Pitchford did warn people about that.
  • That's not helped by poor damage feedback. I'd often think I was absolutely fine then very suddenly be in "fight for your life" mode.
  • It's a little stingier with loot compared to BL3, which threw early guns at you very fast. I suspect that's a good thing.
  • Humour is dialled back compared to BL2 and BL3, but not gone. Claptrap is still Claptrap.
  • The new traversal tool is good, though I reserve the right to change that opinion if they add loads of annoying platforming stuff with it later.
  • It's open world now. 2 hours isn't enough time to work out how that's going to pan out.
Overall... broadly like it, but it's early days yet.

This one I certainly agree with, a few times I found myself downed and had no idea that my life had gotten so low, now admittedly part of that is my fault for not keeping an eye on my health bar in the bottom left of the screen, but I'd like a little more midscreen/overall screen feedback that I am low on health too, so that I'm not needing to cast an eye to the bottom left

yeh same and have to use a thing to inject for health the T key, no one sane asked for that, its annoying, first boss caught me off guard then i smashed him the second time :P

not even sure how it works in the old games need health ;run over health packs done in this one i think they only charge the health kit that u have to press a key to activate just wtf... ontop of swinging about etc so much stuff to track in battles that health thing is not needed or wanted.

That's the main thing I dislike, the health injectors. They have different properties and don't stack, so they take up valuable inventory space.

Bad, bad idea.
