[All Backer Playtest] Tech-Preview Playtest: Vulkan Integration

discussion
Hello Testers!

Today and overnight into Wednesday morning, we will be running a Vulkan Integrations tech-preview playtest!
  • Audience: All Backers
  • TECH-PREVIEW channel: CL 10233375

For this test, play as normal! Spread around to wherever you like in the universe, play FPS missions, group up into large groups.
Other than the additions below, the game should simply match 4.2.x features so Onyx facilities from 4.3.x will not be available

Vulkan Improvements Integration

This update brings the Vulkan improvements done in Squadron 42 into the Star Citizen builds. This has gone through many further iterations since the previous Vulkan Tech-Preview with Evocati the other week.
  • Graphics and Engine Optimizations from SQ42: The game should just be more performant in certain situations.
  • On by Default: Vulkan has been enabled as the default option and you shouldn't need to 'set' anything. Make sure to let the shaders compile before joining the PU.
  • You will have the option to switch back to DX11 in the menu if you want to compare tech (will require a client re-start)

Fixes and updates sine the previous TECH-PREVIEW with Evocati

  • Add support for DLAA (DLSS) and FSR to be used at native res for anti-aliasing
  • Reduced video memory usage of the renderer
  • Video Memory UI Bar & Info in the Graphics settings was redesigned for better clarity
  • Pop-Ups now appear if estimated video memory usage gets above recommended / available when changing graphics settings
  • Improved accuracy of Auto-Detect of graphics settings that happens when booting the game for the first time
  • Fixed various bugs which caused us to underestimate the video memory usage estimation in the options menu, which could lead to players picking too high settings for their GPU and degrading performance
  • Free unused memory after Optimizing Shaders step is completed
  • Additional error checking and logging for Vulkan on startup
  • Fixes for multiple GPU Crashes across all hardware vendors.
  • Fixed GPU Usage for Display differing from picked Renderer GPU in some scenarios.
  • Fixed sun shadows flickering at various locations
  • Fixed a crash with rendering the inventory

Known Issues
  • PU - Multivehicle - EPILEPSY WARNING - Vehicles / VFX / VOIP - Vehicle Thruster and Jump Point VFX will appear incorrectly when in an Comms Call with another Player
  • Multi-System - PU - Locations / Local Inventory / Inventory - Unable to transfer items from Local Inventory
  • PU - UI - Hints - Control Hints - The Control Hints that usually populate in the bottom-right of the player HUD are not displaying

If you have any issues or feedback, please use this thread with any info you would like to provide as well as the issue council!
We are using this thread and monitoring tools to look for issues during the playtest.

Thank you so much for testing Vulkan along with us!

Well my first few attempts to try and play have been pretty unfun. Technical issues, yes I can kinda put up with those given that it's an alpha. But going out on a missions, if you get caught by other players jumping into an area, they'll just blow you up instantly.

The idea is good but gameplay sucks if it's literally going to be a free for all with mass camping like that, we've seen what this does to PvP always on servers as far back as ultima online and gank squads. I was having some bug where I set a jump point and no where would it appear on your HUD so you couldn't initiate a jump to escape the fight, and you have to have your shields down to spool up a jump to escape, by which time you starter ship is ripped to shreds.

I dunno if there's any way to PvP unflag if people are going to behave like this?

Yeah, there definitely is a fair amount of tossery going on right now.
Last time I had a go, there was a group camping OM1 at Crusader just attacking any ship that jumped in. They claimed that they owned Seraphim...

Legit piracy is all well and good, but this type of thing is just beyond lame.

Then again, they were French, so no real shocker.

Hopefully once NPC security gets sorted and beacons and rep working that sort of thing will be much more limited TBF.

I think I was there or near there, the name OM1 rings a bell. I'm in the Stanton system just playing my first few times around Hurston, its moons and the starter missions. I mean this is one of the starter locations deliberately in "safe" space, and people are basically doing the equivalent of spawn camping.

If that's indicative of gameplay in this game, I think I better refund before the 30 days runs out. I'll probably give it a few more go's over the weekend before I do, is there anything I can do that's safe, or where I can get used to the systems of the game without getting blown up instantly? I tried a basic 3u cargo haul but wasn't rewarded the money on completion, I tried doing military contract today but the base was wiped when I got there, and I tried some dogfighting mission to protect an NPC but my ships weapons were pretty weak, they died before I could kill the 2nd ship.

If you do save up for a better ship, is it not worth flying it until you can insure it? the starter ship you get back, but I've read the other ships once they're gone, if you don't have insurance, that's it?

Anyway here's my credit card, please charge me £3000 for a big ship and call me names, and spit on me while you're at it.

LOL honesty I could not give two Fs if it's ever released as my interest is in the mmo sc game. That's what I backed for.

Right now, sc runs quite well with tons of content to do.

But if it is not released SC will never be released.

But I guess for you it was released long time ago :p

I'm only interested in SQ42 now I think.

Or I'll have players like this guy using credit to buy £2000 spaceships to attack a guy on foot.
