Unifi does now support 3rd part cameras through ONVIF, but you won't get any of the in built detections from existing cameras or the AI features from UniFi ones. They do have an AI stick you can plug in between the camera cable and the switch/nvr to add AI detection, but I don't think they're cheap. £150-£200 each IIRC

What i said above: Ubiquiti must have updated the prices, because looking at the website myself; on the French website you save about €5 buying the kit. Apparently the kit was originally €700~ on the euro store.

Apparently Unifi won't even record audio from 3rd party ONVIF.

In my case I've currently got a couple of HiLook (Hikvision) cameras using Blue Iris on my old PC, and the UNVR Instant would have made a nice smaller/easier setup, but no audio is a problem.

I can confirm that. Video only, no events or audio. Audio quality is terrible on my old/cheap cameras anyway so not a big deal for me. Still easier to use than with the old analogue NVR I have or dedicated apps for the internal cheap IP cams I use. Protect is a good app. Smart move for Ubiquiti as I think it just increases the perception of the value of their own kit…

Wow, that's lame. I'm also on Blue Iris with great quality Hik and Dahua cams, love the UI3 interface, but the AI and recognition features do feel massively lacking compared to what Ubiquity is coming out with.

Something has to pay for the interface.. They sell cheap on Amazon or the like, but the software is crap.

It doesn't seem that long ago Unifi was heavily discouraged when it came to CCTV I had everyone telling me to buy Hikvision instead.

I don't know at what point it was implemented in protect but I really like the newer alarm manager that's a lot like IFTTT type setup.
If this happens then do this and I can select individual lights.
Going to expand it all soon with Home Assistant and get the cameras turning on Hue lights.

Correct and that is still true to a certain extent, you can get cheaper Hik or Reolink cameras which will put out as good or perhaps slightly better image than you can from Ubiquiti so price is still an issue.

However, the software and the hardware side of Protect has come a LONG was in the last 3 years so the overall package is pretty compelling now.

Hi unifi folk, I am in the market for a switch ( doesn’t have to be unifi ) for Poe+ to power a dahua IP camera and in future a modern Unifi wireless ap like a u6 pro or maybe even a u7 of some description. Am I ok with a Poe+ 60w switch for this? E.g tp link TL-SG1005P? Is there anything else I need to consider?

I realise I won’t get vlans due to the break in unifi completeness

Anyone here use the UDR 7 (Dream router 7) and care to share their experience with it?

Looking to start with that as it ticks all the boxes of what I need to start upgrading my home network without breaking the bank.
i got one about a month ago
i have the tech knowledge of a trained monkey IE i can watch a vid and use it to set something up
i was looking to upgrade the wifi around the farm and save money by sharing the farm connection with my parents house.
so after abit of reading got a UDR 7, a UBB, 3 U7 pro max,USB flex 8 poe
watched a vid on how to setup the UDR 7, download the app on my phone, setup an account, plugged in the UDR 7, app found the UDR 7 right away, adopted it, typer in my details to connect to internet and that was it. iy just worked
installed 2 u7 in some of the farm sheds and again the software just found them and worked with min fuss
the UBB i was most worried about. again thinking that it be fun lining them up over the 200m. but again set them up roughly by eye, then used the light ring to fine tune, have a link quality of 97% at 876Mbps
the USB and other U7 was used at the parents house, again it just work with min fuss

i was so impressed i got a second UDR7 for my own house, cause i like the software that much
and im thinking of getting some more unifi stuff

Same started of with an access point, then a dream machine se, then I got a big rack and bolted it to the wall, added a poe 2.5gb switch, another access point, some cameras, now I want the sensors and door bell and a NAS.
