What film did you watch last night?

Dark Star (1974)

It's very rare I'll turn a movie off half way, but about an hour in, nope.

WTF?

Was this supposed to be funny? John Carpenter went on to do some great things but wow, was this bad.

If anyone has seen this and even the slight bit enjoyed it you need to go and see a Doctor.

It was a satirical take on space travel. Holds a 6.4/10 on imdb and 73% rotten tomato score. A lot of people enjoy it.

It seems like you didn't 'get it'.

Dark City (1998)

I probably would've enjoyed this a lot if I'd seen it on its original release. The premise, production design and cinematography are top notch, but it just didn't get in to the top tier for me. I wasn't entirely convinced by Keifer Sutherland's performance and Jennifer Connelly looked a touch to young.

7/10

The Days Ahead - 5/10

"A present day nuclear attack presenting three distinct stories showing how characters with varying degrees of preparedness cope with an attack on the United Kingdom."

A short low budget film that had the vibe of a BBC drama, where it was broken down into 3 stories about different groups of people and how they deal with multiple nuclear strikes on the UK. Again it was ok for what it was, acting wasn't the greatest but I quite like this genre so could overlook that. The ending wasn't good though, a bit abrupt and quite unsatisfying.

F1 - 7/10

Like Top Gun Maverick, a big budget hollywood film that's full of cheese, a couple of real cringe moments and a plot that's on rails, but still entertaining. As a F1 fan it helped if I forgot everything I know about the sport and pretended this was the first time I had seen it :p

Utterly brilliant film and set the tone for The Matrix. one of my all time favourites.

I’ve not seen that in years. Teenage me thought Jennifer Connelly was way hot in that, especially singing in the bar. I’d have to rewatch it to get an opinion from middle aged me.

Jurassic World Rebirth - surprisingly more dinosaur action than expected compared to other Jurassic world flicks.
Still forgettable.

I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025 - 3/10

This was pretty bad. Positives, FPJ was pretty good in it. The rest of the 'legacy' scenes felt completely unnecessary. Also setting up a sequel felt pretty desperate.
The Sarah Michelle Gellar one made no sense. The characters were mostly unlikeable, the plot was thread bare (so I guess it fit in well with the rest of the series on that) FPJ suddenly becoming a mass murderer didn't really make sense at all. The lead girl looked so much like Ella Purnell.

This was basically the opposite end of the spectrum from the Scream requels.

Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning - 8/10

Really enjoyed it. It slows in places (the submarine) but generally the near 3 hours passes quite nicely. You have to accept the plot as 'this is how things work' a little, but then it's reasonable enough.

I thought the sub part was one of the best bits! The final plane battle was boring for me.

Weapons - 8.5/10
Loved everything about it but got to give the extra credit for the character development of Julia Garner's character and the performances from the 3 main leads. That double jump-scare was one for the ages and I pulled a face like Turkish at the end of Snatch.
