Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [3rd - 5th October 2025]

Trent has been a massive loss. I always felt Mo was never as good without Trent in the side. Just bought something extra from that area of the pitch no other fullback came close to.

Two very easy chances to level it while they’ve done nothing but get to edge of our box fast
We’ve had a lot worse first half’s and been winning this season lol

Need to step it up second to have realistic chance of winning though

Another worrying half, 1-0 down and we look susceptible to the ball over the top down the wing and unlikely to score ourselves. Worse still, Konate hasn’t given them his standard gift a game yet.

Would you like him to be a bit taller? Was a tough chance and a few cm too high lol
He pretty much out jumped the ball. From what I saw he almost ended up needing to stoop to head it.

Can't find a picture, but there is no way that was too high for him.

Yes, but I was responding to your comment about Gakpo offering nothing, when he'd been integral to our best chance of the match moments earlier.
Interesting, you were critical of Wirtz against Gala during the week, when he should have had a hattrick of assists but for bad finishing from Ekitike, isak and Bradley but here you are sticking up for gakpo when he's been his usual anonymous self.. ''but he played a pass in the final third"

Weird first half. First 10 mins aside we've had very little control of the game however we're the side that's created all the chances. Our failure to take them and Caicedo smashing one in from 25 yards has been the difference.

Bradley's got to come off at HT. He's got a terrible habit of picking up early yellows and he's up against a player and side that will try to get him sent off at every opportunity.

I don’t think allot of our issues atm are Trent related.

Midfield isn’t working, Mac is out of sorts.

Gakpo/Salah both out of form and look like lost any form of pace.

Hugo is only player in form and showed promise.

Frimpong hasn’t shown his pace or attacking talent he has shown in Germany.

Konate is useless.

Having Trent there wouldn’t fix most of that

I worry, and have throughout, that Slot has bought market opportunity without real thought to it. We've lost a lot of creativity with Trent going. Wirtz was meant to replace that, but I'm hugely sceptical about playing genuine 10s in the modern game - I just don't think it works, and I think that's a big part of why our balance has looked off this season. And if we take him off, we end up with the same midfield as last season, who are all great but aren't massive creators. Similarly, I didn't love the Isak signing at the time, and still don't. We didn't need to go nuts and bring in two expensive 9s and a 10, we needed to flesh out our midfield with some more dynamic options. Eze, at half the price of Wirtz, would have been a far better signing.

I hope it gels, but at the moment I think our transfer policy has gone all Man Utd. Big names, big money, but not enough thought.
No, that's the only post I made about Wirtz in relation to the Galatasary match and it's clearly a criticism of the transfer policy in bringing in a number 10, not of Wirtz's performance in that match.

You’ve been criticsl of the Wirtz signing since the season started? If we'd had our finishing boots on he'd be well on the way to double figures in assists for this season.

Yup. Didn't like it at the time, and still don't. Same with Isak. It's unbalanced the team, and I think he'll give us the same problem Fernandes gives United, or Ozil gave Arsenal. Wonderful players, but a role doesn't exist for them in today's game.

Wirtz is getting too much stick, bigger culprits are the experinced ones not delivering
I agree. He's a fantastic footballer and I'm excited to watch him. That doesn't mean that I think he was the right player for us to sign, or that I think the role of him or any other out and out 10 has a place in our side.
