What film did you watch last night?

A play, rather than a film, called The Stone Tape by Nigel Kneale (of Quatermass fame).

I actually saw this as a child in the 70s - it scared the hell out of me and I hadn't seen it since.

Its basic premise is that an R&D team from an electrics company installs itself in an old country pile to do some product research. The room they are occupying, as it happens, is haunted by a screeching female apparition (it was the blood curdling screams that originally got me) and, being scientific types one of them postulated that maybe what they were seeing and hearing was the result of a phenomenon in which powerful events are recorded onto solid materials in the environment and played back over time - hence the play's title.

Consequently, they throw all their gadgetry at it in an effort to prove the theory and, indeed, prove it they do but in the darkest imaginable way and, as I don't wish to reveal any spoilers, you can find out for yourselves in the link, below, if you feel inclined to do so .

Some great performances from Jane Asher (Macca's ex) and Iain Cuthbertson, best known for his role in the gangster series, Budgie.

Furthermore, even as an adult, that screeching still sent shivers up my spine so no wonder I needed a nightlight on my bedside table for months on end after having seen it at the age of eight.

.

I remember seeing this when it was first broadcast and as a 14/15 year old it scared the hell out of me

That stone tape may go on my list.

Terrifier 2 6/10
I know what you did last summer 2025. 4/10 just like a cheap TV movie. The only thing dragging it up to the rating was Freddie Prince junior and Jennifer love Hewitts acting /characters, didn't even bother finishing it went to sleep instead.

could've easily have paused the film a hundred times to explain to my wife how such and such would never have happed or wa just plain wrong.
When we watched it, I forgave it far more than my wife. Since being with me, she's learnt how F1 works and was huffing at some of the more unrealistic parts.

Terrifier 3 is way way way better than 2.

I saw the F1 movie in the cinema and I think it benefits quite a lot from the big screen and loud sound system.

It’s still a pretty stupid movie but the visceral racing scenes make up for a lot and I’d imagine most of that is lost at home.

I saw it a big dumb, fun movie. Looked and sounded great in Imax or Dolby whatever it was.

I literally just watched....

The long walk....2025

Some excellent acting, but i almost feel like the ending was obvious and a little bit off what otherwise is one hell of a good watch.
I'm sure this resonates harder with America.

Edit:
(I did some after film research on the book and tbh it sounds a lot better, the film really fails to get across the world building aspect and has a completely different ending which is absolutely no suprise)

8.5/10 (7.5 the day after with a bit of less traumatized head :p)

Moneyball - 8/10

I have no internet in Baseball but enjoyed this. A little overlong and the family bits were a bit dull, but a good go at making the concept palatable to a film audience.

Edit - bumping from a 6 to an 8 as I'm not obsessed with statistical data for football and am now cosplaying in my head as the Ipswich Town manager.

Watched The Domestics on prime.
A couple are travelling through a post apocalyptic america filled with violent gangs to get to their parents who they have lost radio contact with.
Feels a bit like a purge movie if it had been going on for years.
Overall a decent film that is quite brutal in places.
6.5/10

I watched it at home on an OLED screen and a 5.1.2 sound system. It didn't help. I'm glad I didn't waste over £40 going to see it at the cinema.

I love that film too. It's a real shame it bombed mainly due to critics originally. I really would have liked to see a sequel.
From a YouTube video I watched after the film it was the marketing that killed any sequels. It didn’t help Marvel became the focus for Disney at the time as well. The director had planned for a trilogy.
