What film did you watch last night?

Dangerous Animals (2025)

This was actually a good film and hard to fault really. There's a few small plot holes and convenient coincidences, but other than that it's a very well put together horror thriller.

7/10

Tron: Ares (2025) - 5/10

A rather dull adventure into cyberspace which entertains but never excites.

The story was ok but nothing special and whilst the visual effects and action/chase scenes were visually impressive, they weren’t particularly imaginative.

The music was good but the acting could have been better and the rest of the film felt lacking with not enough over the top sequences, humour, drama or anything really to make it stand out beyond mediocre.

I Swear - 9/10

Went to the cinema yesterday to see this. Big fan of John Davidson.. great film, very powerful and funny. Giving education about Tourette’s also will do wonders for people living with it.

Gonna try and get this in tonight :)

I found the previous ones very watchable, particularly the one set in England, but this one was trash, 1st half boring second half was completely ridiculous even by this series standards...horror films dontt tend to scare me much anyway but this wasn't even spooky lol, 4/10 from me.

Ah bugger :(

We'll watch it anyway as we have watched all the others.

Tron:Ares - Was visually spectacular and the audio was even better. Proper sexual. Film was ok. I wasn't bored during it. 6.5 overall as it is technically excellent. Be sure to watch in Dolby etc

Good boy - I'm a dog lover so this was tense for me. The dog is excellent, which is odd to say. A decent twist on an old film style. 7.5/10

Him - Some lovely visuals and production but the film itself was messy. I fell asleep once. 5/10

The Prince of Egypt (on ITV player)

Animated retelling of baby Moses and his Egyptian ‘shenanigans’.

This is a beautiful looking film. The characters have simple lines, with soft pastel backgrounds, supported by quite subtle 3D animation… with occasional bombast courtesy of god’s “wonders”. It just gives it a real sense of character. Worth watching for the visuals alone.

The rest of it is generally very good to fair. The cast is ‘all star’ although the dialogue is kept quite simple - and the plot ‘fast moving’ - as the portrayal is intended as a ’family film’.

‘Intended’ being the operative word there, as obviously the story is harrowing as ****. You really feel those Old Testament ‘bad times’. The bleakness would be too distracting if you wanted something fun.

The film is punctuated with some musical numbers but these are more like fleeting vignettes, so don’t let that put you off.

9/10 - visually stunning and ‘weighty’, well worth a watch.

Also, I find it mental that my wife wasn’t familiar with this story. I mean… errr wut, really?! Just goes to show what you get from different upbringings… at least she now understands what Creeping Death by Metallica is about o_O

Thought it was ok, 6/10.

1st half was ok, quite a bit going on and not just story building and boring dialogue. 2nd half went a bit crazy with full on spooks - it's better when they hide or just seen for a split second. The aggressive mirror was a bit cringe.

1 jump scare got the wife which is always fun. And, "do you like dolls?", "not really", got a smile (Annabelle reference).

Also, the final shots with the real Warrens just smacked of hoax and $$$ cash ins - cheapened the movie.

Thought it was decent and wrapped up the franchise.

Him - 3/10

I don't know why I watched this really, I should have read more about it. It's slick but completely empty. Feels like an hour and a half long instagram flick. I got bored long before the horror even showed up.

Heist 2001 - 9/10

Seen this a few times now a great film, an under rated classic.
Gene Hackman and all round cast are all superb in this.

Constantine - 7.5/10

I think this has aged pretty well. The visuals and production are great, and while Keanu is a little wooden in a way, he’s still charismatic. Thoroughly enjoyed and can’t believe it’s been twenty years since I last watched it!

.5 off because Shia Labeouf’s in it.

The Conjuring: Last Rites 6/10

I actually enjoyed the build up of the first 2/3 of the film a lot more than the finish, which I thought was a bit cringe worthy in parts. I absolutely loved the original movie, still one of my favourite horrors and really enjoyed the second, about the Enfield poltergeist but found the third too predictable and so had fairly low hopes for the fourth and final outing, which I found lacking in atmosphere.

Crime they never made a proper follow up to this, even if it is somewhat a departure from the comics, there some cool deleted scenes from it as well.

Yeah, I wasn’t too fussed about the changes made. And I think Keanu is keen to do a sequel and he even appears in one of the documentaries that was filmed for the 4K release, which doesn’t seem to happen much these days with the ‘big’ actors when films are rereleased. I didn’t get round to watching the deleted scenes, so may do that later :)
