What film did you watch last night?

Flow (2024)

A weird Latvian animation about a cat and a group of other animals in a post-apocalyptic world, it's notable for having been made entirely in Blender and having no dialogue only animal noises and music. It's visually distinctive, beautifully animated, and has some lovely moments but for me it felt like a 20 minute short had been strung out over a full feature length. The animals behaviour never being quite sure how naturalistic it wanted to be and how anthropomorphic felt increasingly off, and the totally unexplained weirdness would have been intriguing in a short but felt unsatisfying in a full film.

5/10, too slow and without enough meat on its bones. My wife, on the other hand, thought it was great.

Flow is a wonderfully simple emotive film. Showing character and beauty and that differences can we worked out when bad thongs happen and everyone needs to pitch in to help each other survive.

Not every movie needs to be fast paced or action packed.

Yup I thought it was a bit lacking as well, althought I can’t deny that it was very watchable.

Night of the living dead (1990)

This was better than I remembered, doesn't top my favourite (dawn of the dead original) but solid 8/10 chainsaws.

The Exorcist 8.5/10. It's been a while, and tis the season, amazing film.

Can anyone recommend any other decent horror flicks for Halloween?

See what you think of my taste before I start making a giant list. Give these two (what I'd consider 'top tier picks') a try and I'll list some more if you're enjoying those. Don't look these up just watch them unless you intentionally want to spoil your viewing experience, neither is as gory as The Excorcist.

Talk To Me (2022)
Bring Her Back (2025)

Tron Ares - 3/10
Loved Tron and Tron:Legacy but this is a big stinking pile of manure, written by 12 yr old writers and smack bang full of tropes and basically ignore completely the events of Legacy.

Big evil mega corp vs super good planet saving corp mixed with a Jared Leto's plank of wood acting and a Pinnochio 'I want to be a real boy' story.

How they spent $180m on this blows my skull.

I would be generous and give it 5/10, and that’s due to the sumptuous sound and visuals. The story and dialogue is Madam Web bad though.

I did laugh at Gillian Anderson coming round after being dead 5 mins to tell her son “you did this” before dying again so there was that.

One Battle After Another - 9/10.

Really enjoyed it, held my attention, and the first nearly 3hrs runtime film in ages that didn't feel like 3hrs.

Cast was superb, Leo & Sean Penn were very very good.

Yeah was awful and Gillian Anderson so wasted it was quite unbelievable how bad the not only wrote her part but also managed to completely waste the opportunity of having such a brilliant actress available and using her for this bit part.

I suppose that's what makes living interesting. Obviously opinions vary.

Cast was excellent, as was the acting, but I still thought it was diabolical. Hey ho. I wouldn't make a good politician. :D
