Could you not do that using the groups and or zones?Main thing I'd like to see in an update is the abilitiy to treat a VPN client like a WAN port, with associated firewall rules, port forwarding etc.

Got a snuggle buddy for my two Flex 2.5Gb mini switches to replace the Express 7 and then a U7 Pro XGS mounted on the ceiling to sort the wifi out![]()
Probably a silly question but the likes of a UCG-Fiber can still be used with a modem/supplier router in modern only mode can't it? It definitely doesn't support a FTTC connection alone does it.
Correct, for FTTC you'd need an OR modem, or one from the likes of Draytek (Vigor 130 was one I had years ago).It definitely doesn't support a FTTC connection alone does it.
Main things I go with - Run more runs of cable than you think you need, it's minimal extra cost, but saves effort in the long run if you have a problem with a connection, or want to add something else in.Gotta pull up some flooring to run a new supply line to the kitchen, going to run some Cat 6 upstairs to the home office, and probably dump some in every room just for future proofing. I've got solid wireless with my APs, but considering running some CAT6 to the loft too and putting my AP on the hallway ceiling. Bit of extra faff though, have to have a think.
Anything else future proof worth running these days? I'm a big fan of wired connections still.
Not directly.Could you not do that using the groups and or zones?
Strange you bring this up I ran Adblock Home on my NAS, and couldn't get that working by setting the IP on my WAN DNS settings, and all Networks set to Auto.Has anyone successfully got Pihole adblocking working correctly? I have a UCG Fiber, two piholes, one on a physical Pi, the other a container on my NAS. Been working fine for years, new internet connection so i got a new router. I have a few network defined, pihole is set to primary and secondary DNS servers on all networks and DNS itself is working and resolving, however Ad blocking is not working. What am i missing here? Also on the Pi i have Tailscale installed, i can remotely access home and its also an exit node, so i can route my traffic remotely through it, however again PIhole is not filtering Ads. Any assistance grately received. UCG is on 4.3.9 and the Network is on 9.4.19
I wouldn't run cable without this, nowadays. A high quality bend-resistant (G.657.A1) 15 metre OS2 single mode LC/UPC cable is less than £4. It's pointless not including a couple when you're running cables imo. Once you have a fibre spine, modules and switches are cheaper than copper, too.e.g. Do you want to put a fibre cable in to run 10Gb to another location?
I can't really add anything apart from that i had PiHole setup on a RaspberryPi a couple of years ago with a Unifi router, and it worked fine. Had a Adblock Home setup on a router flashed with OpenWRT more recently and that also worked fine with my CGU.Has anyone successfully got Pihole adblocking working correctly? Set DHCP so that clients get the UniFi gateway as their DNS server, then on your UniFi Gateway set Internet to use the local devices. Give it a try, additionally things like policy based routing will need that config.Has anyone successfully got Pihole adblocking working correctly? Has seemed snappy so far, got the SSD tray and put in a 500GB spare drive I had for now.The CGF has got to be one of the best devices that Ubiquiti has ever made. Such a powerful little box.

I've heard of quite a few discolouring over the years. a mixture of heat & UV I think.I’ve got 2 x AC Lite access points serving WiFi in my house. I’ve had them for around 8 years and they’ve been flawless in that time.
I’m wondering whether or not it would be now be worth upgrading them as they are getting on a bit now. I mean they still work fine but newer devices now support faster WiFi. One of them is also quite yellow which is strange as no one smokes. Possibly heat discolouration?
Yeah it’s probably more of a tinkering/upgrade itch tbh. They work perfectly fine and I’ve never had any reliability or performance issues.I've heard of quite a few discolouring over the years. a mixture of heat & UV I think.
In terms of upgrading, it depends if you're happy with the Wifi performance you have currently. Yes, U6/U7 devices will give you better speeds, and likely more reliable connection, but if you don't have anything high data rate on your wifi & you don't have any connection problems, I would be tempted to leave it as it is, until the devices are no longer supported (unless you just have an upgrade itch!)
