What film did you watch last night?

The Long Walk - 8/10

Loved the book. Loved the film. First time a film has made me tear up. Been going through a bit of cameraderie with some friends at the moment, so I think that part hit home.

Preferred the book ending.

Man, it is tough to decide whether to watch Long Walk, this is getting such extreme polar opposite reviews.
It's quite a straight forward film about a bunch of people taking a long walk, if your expectations are plot twists, lots of action then your gonna be disappointed, otherwise its pretty good for what it is. I rather enjoyed it.

Shutter Island - 6.5/10

I don’t know, I feel like I want/need to like this film more than I actually do. It’s basically all about the reveal. I find everything leading up to that point actually pretty boring. Not one of Scorsese’s best.

It's all about the rewatch! The main character's encounter with anyone was just....off....

Looking at the reviews on here, this one's really marmite

Yeah it’s an odd one. There’s not exactly a lot to happen and I’ll happily admit I’m no critic. I’ll watch something for entertainment and that’s about it.

I will say it’s a bit weird that they changed the book ending but I’d say it worked.

Battle Angel Alita - 7/10

It's not a perfect film, and has some breakneck plot accelerations in it but they seem to work and get forgotten as quickly as they happen. Tremendous VFX in the fights and Motorball* scenes, some amazing sets and overall CGI goodness. There is a sprinkling of cheese, but also seems to work to drive the story forward.

Seen it twice, would happily watch again and James Cameron/Rob Rodriguez really need to make a sequel. Ideally with Jennifer Connolly in it again, please. Pretty please.

Indeed! Sorry, I meant to say I’ve seen it before many years ago!

Things like how Mark Ruffalo is throughout, such as how he handles his gun and how the interviewees look at him too, are quite fun to observe second time round. :)

Eden (2025) Amazon
Based on the rather disturbing true story of 3 groups of people trying to settle in the "Eden" of the Galapagos islands in the 1930's.
Jude Law does a decent job of playing the original settler, an ex German doctor, who's paper printed extracts encourage the other 2 groups to travel to the island.
Another animal farm type, descent into anarchy film, but worth a watch imho. I'd quite like to read up more on the true story.
7/10

It's a good movie and needs a sequel.

Back to the Future, it's on Netflix, must have seen it half a dozen times over the years - 9/10

I gather there’s a lot of stuff that stands out a lot more on a rewatch, but I kinda feel like that’s a bit too clever by half. Mind you, I’m great at anagrams, so when I watched it the first time, it was obvious to me the minute I heard the names involved. Maybe I need things a bit more clever than anagrams but not quite as clever as whatever nonsense is going on with that glass of water.

Just back from watching I Swear at the cinema. Really good. Great performance from the lead and solid support from some of Britain's finest. Quite small, like a play, as is the way with a lot of these sorts of British triumph over adversity films.

Really amazing how committed he is to supporting others with the condition. It would be so easy in his position to be bitter about it.
