Fuji X Series

You guys with the experience, would the X-T5 be the perfect upgrade for me? I do sport and landscape primarily, but not against some portrait too. My X-T3 is adequate at all, but the better AF on the 5 is tempting. That's a bit of a drawback with the 3. It's slow and not very intuitive especially with swimming. Plus the batteries are dire.

For sports, the AF will help you immensely; it should increase keeper rate.

For landscape, the extra mp will also help, you can zoom in more.

Objectively, it is an improvement and SHOULD yield better results. However, your landscape images, from an artistic POV will remain unchanged. Framing will remain the same. It won't really help in portraits, unless you are taking about trying to capture a NBA slam dunk for Nike ad campaign.

As a package, it's a significant improvement and one I would personally recommend. On paper there isn't one killer feature that sets either apart all that much but when you combine them all it adds up into something substantial.
As you say, better AF IS noticeable. I could even see a big difference when changing from the X-T4 to the 5 and that was back when the 5 was still on its original firmware. The higher MP sensor will make a difference for both your use cases as (I know with my sports work) I tend to crop quite a bit so the extra megapixels are definitely handy to have.
Don't overlook the IBIS as well. I have always said it's a 'nice to have' rather than a necessity but it's an extra feature to consider - particularly for portraits and even landscapes if (like me) you either forget or CBA with a tripod :D .

I hadn't even considered the IBIS. I tend to do a lot of long exposure so a tripod (or a stone in some cases :-) ) are an essential part of the kit. I will get this 3 and the two lenses priced up and see what it will cost me.

I've bought lenses pre-owned but never cameras. XT-5 like new condition are £1400 online.

If you must get like new...is it really like new from Japananese's interpretation of "like new" or is it from a Westerner perspective of Like new? which could mean.....It has a dent on the corner, scratched LCD, no box, missing body cap...but other than that, Like New!

I haven't used an X-T3 but I noticed a slight improvement in AF performance between the X-S10 and X-T5. It certainly wasn't a complete game changer but it was noticeable. I expect you'll notice it as an incremental improvement. I believe the X-H2S has slightly better AF than the X-T5.

I think the biggest difference is between the older and newer generation lenses - that leap in performance was game changing.

In terms of AF and sharpness/resolution. When I first got the X-T5 I didn't find the bump in sensor resolution all that significant and recommended that people don't upgrade to the X-T5/X-H2 specifically for the newer sensor.
All that now said, the newer crop of lenses really show off the extra detail and resolution from the 40mp sensor. So in that regard I would suggest there is now more to be gained than when it was released.

That just means you need a deeper pocket lol. As I already have a set of 1st gen X mount lenses, and don't feel the need to upgrade them, then the extra resolution isn't required.

Besides, I don't print them, and if I do, I will just make a photobook which 24mp is plenty. I am also not one of those who crop in post besides rotation.

I have just gone from old sensor and old glass to new sensor and new glass.

Specifically X-T30 II and 16mm f1.4 to X-E5 and 18mm f1.4.

The X-T30 II was very good already but the 18mm f1.4 on the X-E5 is just leagues ahead in terms of sharpness and detail especially wide open. I'm not talking about pixel peeping either, just flicking through photos on my 16"" MBP there is a big difference IMHO.

I didn't really buy into the "new glass is better on new sensor" argument but the 33mm f1.4 images also just look better on the X-E5 than they did on the X-T30 II.

So I have finally sold my XT-3, a 55-200, a 56mm Sigma and a 10-24 to help partially fund my new purchase. I've kept the Fuji 50-140 which is a truly remarkable lens and the one I used most of all. So, where to go next - I think the XT-5 has got to be top of the list. But are they any other options I've overlooked? I do landscape mostly, closely followed by sport (swimming in particular) and I would love to do more portrait.

XT5, and leave nothing on the table. All the other offerings have their own compromise.

The XT50 is close, same sensor and AF and even IBIS so if you want to save a bit of money, you can do that.

Thanks! Looking at both the XT50 and the 5, I can't see that much difference? The film dial? Weather proofing? I presume the 5 is the pro version and the 50 is the "lite" version?

The spec sheets don't look too different, but hold both in your hand and you'll feel the difference.

I think the 50 uses the old NP-W126S battery. The newer battery in the X-T5 is worth it alone IMO. Add in a better EVF, dual card slots, weather sealing, and better overall build and the overall package of the X-T5 is hard to ignore.

If I could only keep one of my cameras it would be the X-T5 without a shadow of doubt.
It’s just the perfect all-rounder IMO and can lend itself to pretty much any genre of photography.
For me, the 50 is just a bit too small as a main camera. I’d have no qualms about using one as a second body but with all the extra features (mostly mentioned by Scuzi above) I’d say it’s well worth it.

It’s a bit crystal ball gazing but I don’t believe we’re all that far off an X-T6. Based on previous release dates we should have had it this November. I’d be surprised if there isn’t something in the first half of next year.
I do appreciate that, as with most tech, if we always waited for the next thing we’d never buy anything but might be worth bearing in mind.

Okay I am going to go with the full-fat 5. Battery was an issue with the 3 and the AF wasn’t great if I’m honest. Where would you buy new?

Interesting, very are more expensive from the off. An extra £50 for the convenience. No sign of the 20% first time buyer either. But only had a quick look

There's a X-E5 kit (black) on Amazon resale with 15% off - so can be had for a smidge over £1200.
