Half Life 3?

I just cant fathom what would be able to push the boundaries like HL2 did that other companies havent tried already. For a while I thought it might have been VR but alas no

I don't think I would believe it even if I was sat here at my PC actually playing it. I would assume that I have entered some kind of out of body lucid dream-like state and in reality I'm in a padded cell.

If you put any weight on the datamining findings, it could be more in the direction of new enviromental physics. But without knowing gameplay mechanics there's not much point in guessing.

Could be jiggle physics.

We've already had that with Half Life Alyx.
I dont think so, i think ALYX was the testing ground for the real deal....Half Life 3 on valves new VR headset due to be released by end of 2025 along with HL3 VR exclusive. Im calling it as its just what they did with ALYX, came out of nowhere with no buildup or news leaked it just appeared. ALYX was a blue printed prototype as they need HL3 to be perfect obviously. That's my take and prediction and it ties in perfectly with the new VR headset and exclusive new launch title. PS1 had it with Ridge Racer, N64 had it with Super Mario etc etc you get the picture.

You can play half life 2 with the free VR mod from valve. It completely changes the game in VR being able to aim properly. I bet ravenholm is scary in VR. Ive not played it yet, i tested it and it works really well. Another one for the backlog lol

If Valve did that there would be major uproar It's one thing to do it with a spinoff title but for something like HL3 were many gamers have been waiting over 20 years and have no interest in buying or ever owning a vr headset Steam would be set ablaze!

If this does amount to something then I think it would be one that can be played in both VR and normal control methods, VR probably being the definitive experience (and likely benchmark of VR games from that point).

I would think they still have some ideas floating about from way back during the episode development days that they would still want to try or could now make better use of given the tech/engine advancements. The ice gun thing they had planned that let you build cover and alter the environment springs to mind. Plus there's Portal and the links it has to Half Life, rather than just a grav gun it could be some all encompassing object & environment manipulator along with portals and physics altering effects.

The possibilities and potential cool scenarios you could come up with really do grow when you combine together what they've already made.

I played the VR mode a while back. As I recall one of the gameplay revelations was the accuracy with which you can suddenly wield the crowbar - much more realistic feeling and immersive.

They did Alyx, it was great and I loved it. But I would never want HL3 to be VR although I'd still be happy.

You'd expect they'd have something fancy for the new VR kit yet I doubt very much that would be HL3 at this point in time.

I think it would be too much of a risk to do that with the direct sequel to HL2, there are just so many more consumers waiting to buy it day-1 that don't own any VR.

They could always do both, Alyx or some other VR game AND HL3. That would be... Unforeseen.

Half Life Alyx didn't appear out of nowhere. We knew almost 8/9 months before the headset came out that they were releasing a VR game and that you would be playing as Alyx. We knew even longer than that that they were doing a Half Life VR game and it was some kind of prequel to Half Life 2.

Aww man, every time I forget about HL3, along comes a post that gets my hopes up. Well, I'm excited and ready to be disappointed!

I would very much consider buying a VR headset specifically for Alyx and HL3, but I would do so very begrudgingly. My main gripe is that despite the advancement in the technology compared to early VR headsets (ironically almost entirely spearheaded by Valve themselves and HL Alyx), the adoption rate by developers just seems non-existent, so spending £1k for 2 titles seems ludicrous.

Not wishing to take the thread off topic, but there are a lot more good/great VR games out there. Maybe there isn't a big studio AAA release every five minutes, but playing (say) golf in VR offers gameplay and immersion that cannot be matched with a keyboard and flat screen.
