No idea why they haven't idiot proofed Linux, or at the very least made an easy install for just gamers?!?
There are distro's for gamers. The main issue seems to be driver support for GPUs.

Well that's what Microsoft need to figure out how do they sell it.
But I think you're looking at it from the wrong angle.
Houses don't have desktop pc's in them any more. Kids get bought consoles. Xbox competes against PlayStation more than it does against a pc.
So Microsoft could try to add something to their console that PlayStation won't ever have, and get a pc back into the home.
Been a mess since Xbox one that was there downfall had such a fantastic base and force with the Xbox 360.The whole thing is a mess already.
the thing is, their idea was sound. being the "one" device to control everything wasn't a bad idea at all. the issue is they just didn't nail it, and paired the xbox with the kinect so it was over priced for hardware no one wanted nor would use. wasn't the kinect capable of increasing and lowering volume by hand gesture? the most stupid way to change your volume.Been a mess since Xbox one that was there downfall had such a fantastic base and force with the Xbox 360.

I mean, some smart TVs tried, but we shunned those features too.you are correct.... seeing as Smart TVs took it to another level without the gimmicks and just used TV apps. The Kinect was a risky move at the time, as they tried to ride the Wii success. I still think the Kinect would be good for arcade machines if the tech was improved
Isn't a smart TV essentially what the xbox one tried to be? Netflix, live TV, sky etc plus your games.I mean, some smart TVs tried, but we shunned those features too.
"I don't want my TV watching me all the time"
Biggest problem I see for Xbox next gen is the cost of memory and storage right now, if they are really planning it and working on it right now, whilst we're expecting memory and storage prices to continue to increase well into Q2 and possibly Q3 I am not sure if they'll come back down enough to keep the cost low.
Yes, they wanted it to be the multimedia device in people's living rooms, not just a gaming console. Not a terrible idea, to be fair, but the gaming part of it was less performant compared to the competition and there was too much of a focus on Kinect which almost nobody was asking for ( that fad died with the Wii ). Sort of encapsulates Microsoft in a nutshell : 50% belated trend chasing and 50% great ideas but ahead of their time.Isn't a smart TV essentially what the xbox one tried to be? The kinect rubbish was a distraction

Is there even such a thing as physical games now?Wondering the same as my Game Pass is up for renewal this month and I've barely played it. May get the minimal tier and just buy physical games again.
I guess though the disc is still sellable even if the content is then downloaded. So you can recover some of the costs of each game once you have finished and sell it onIs there even such a thing as physical games now?
Most discs only contain minimal data and need to be installed and patches downloaded now.
I stuck with my xbox one for at least 2 years after series x released. Is the Xbox worth sticking with over the next few years? I have the X and my 2 lads have an S each. My youngest boy (5) has been using my xbox and is really good at many games and thinking of getting him his own console for his 6th next July. From browsing this thread I get the impression that Xbox is something that will be obsolete soon or at least not being developed further. I probably read it all wrong but I am concerned that if I spend £100s on a new console it will be useless a few years later.
2 of my boys have the Series S each. They share one game pass sub. I have Series X and my wife is using my Xbone. We share 1 game pass sub too. I am just wanting to sort of beset for the future for a bit and dont think Xbox will be ideal. Many of the kids friends are on PS so I am swaying towards replacing all xboxes with PS.I stuck with my xbox one for at least 2 years after series x released.
So even if you buy them a series s now with 2 years game pass stacked, it'll still be full of content and use.
One thing to add, with 2 consoles you can easily share 1 game pass between both consoles saving you money. But yiu can't do that with a 3rd

Not sure what is the best option.
