Audi owners in here!

Audi has a much cheaper in all in one service plan/warranty compared to BMW the all in one cost is cheaper than just the warranty from BMW. The only way I'd own one is have it covered by that same as I wouldn't have a BMW without the extended warranty either.

If it is a warranty repair though at their garage, is that representative of the cost to the diligent owner at a 3rd party garage, let alone DIYer.

Single fan units seem to be sub £100, but, coding might be problematic;
was just reading about the component protection schemes in vag, getting a capable obd tool at some point is on my shopping list (a la djmk4)
to be able to code and protect against immune rejection of new parts.

Component protection
As part of the security strategy, some parts of the modules built in the VAG vehicles, implement the so called “component protection”. This is a mechanism dedicated to prevent exchange of modules between different vehicles without central authorization from the VAG online database.

these modules when moved to another vehicles activate the “component protection active” DTC and are with restricted functionality.
Component security is not implemented in all VAG vehicles.

If you buy a brand new part, and replace an existing part you should not get component protection kicking in. The issue will arise if you buy a secondhand part.

does seem like the component protection can be removed with ODIS software?
ODIS enables/disables VW/Audi component protection | Volkswagen Skoda Audi Radio Unlock Code

OBDeleven does have SFD access so we should be able to use it to clear the component protection error? I know some older posts on other forums say no - but wondering if that has changed in the past 2 years

it would be the same cost if not under warranty, the part number is 80A959455E, no coding required.

After your original post, curious about cooling fan liability on my Audi that I've never heard operating
Id scanned this generic fan thread about dealer incompetence, and seen salvaged fans at sub £100

interesting that control model does not need coding though - it's for more banal things like batteries I imagined I'll need to plan something

the new fans post 2017 have the individual control modules it seems, no longer one module controlling two fans, each fan has its own.

Checking in with my 17 reg B9 Allroad. Bought it with 79k miles on the clock and had to replace the DSG mechatronics unit for £3k months later. Warranty didn't cover it.
That said, I've done 15k miles since then, including a family trip through Scotland and it's been great. The 2.0 diesel is surprisingly quick.

I know, I'm biased, but the interior in my B9 A4 is so good. Still looks good after owning it for 7 years.

The interior is what sold me on this car. I do wish I had the digital dash and perforated gear shift though. Looks like you havea bigger carplay screen too?

What warranty did you have?

What warranty did you have?
A1 Approved. I went back to see the details and as it turns out they actually paid £975 of the £4k bill, detailed below in case anyone's curious. The inlcusion of thirty bolts was interesting to me.
I can't remember the exact terms of the warranty but there was a £975 single claim limit for some reason.

Ah ok, that’s rough. I pay for the Audi approved warranty, hopefully that would cover it.

warranties - had a call with Marshalls about extended warranty , via autoplan, on a B9 they want about £500 a year starting next week;
I can't see the flaw/what am I missing, they have a weird way of specifying what is covered - but when I called to get policy details
and eg. asked so if a syncro went in the manual gearbox would it be covered, answer was yes ?
(even though selecting a gear could first become unreliable, there is a point where it would no longer be working safely)

they include recovery service & 60days in eu covered too, the details on ev cover in linked brochure are elaborate.

Thanks for that - I'll dig up my warranty terms to refresh my memory because, yes, somehow, we still have the same policy. It's only £27pm but a £1000 limit on any single claim is a huge caveat on a car as complex as this.

By the way, do you (or any other B9 owners out there) get a gentle clunk...clunk about half a second apart (front then back) as soon as you pass 25mph for the first time after starting up? It's almost as if the brakes are setting/cleaning themselves or something?

How old is the car ? If you can get the Audi all in one plan it is a bargin. Current deal is £750 2 years warranty with zero excess,2 MOTs,Breakdown cover and 2 years servicing.

Sheesh, for my 8 year old 2 litre it's £713, and I'm 700mi from needing a service. No brainer. Edit - There's a not-insignificant list of exclusions:

  • Automatic gearbox oil change
  • Brake Fluid
  • Cambelt replacement
  • Alternator Belt replacement
  • Diesel Fuel Filter replacement
  • Spark Plugs replacement for petrol models
  • Engine Air Filter replacement
  • Any wear and tear items, identified during the service that require replacement

I’d avoid Marshall, they’re about as bad as it gets when it comes to main dealers, I’ve only heard bad things about them and my limited dealings with them have all been unpleasant.

Almost all of these warranties are worded the same way, even some of the manufacturer ones - it all comes down to the attitude of the underwriter assessing the warranty claim. I’d only have confidence in one backed by the manufacturer, they are just generally better.

For older cars it's not as good only worth it when the warranty is included.

surprisingly the warranty I linked had said cambelts covered - as long as its been serviced correctly should be good, audi mandate a belt change at 140K.

Warning: Timing belts
(also known as camshaft drive belts)
If your vehicle has a timing belt, please
make sure that it is in good condition and
that it is checked and changed in line with
the manufacturer’s recommendations. If
the timing belt breaks it can cause serious
and unnecessary engine damage. We are
not responsible for damage caused by the
failure of a worn-out timing belt, unless the
timing belt has been replaced in line with the
manufacturer’s service schedule.

I had had an air conditioning problem in early days<30days of ownership which was farmed out to a local audi dealership , although I had the delay of first visit/analysis by them
with prior approval you can get warranty work done at any vat qualifying garage, so afaik could take it to audi cambridge, without any preliminary visit at a marshalls garage

Yeah that makes sense. The Audi thing is confusing us; the one @Dangerous Dave was talking about includes a 2 year warranty IF your car is between 3 and 6 years old. For my 17 reg the price is a touch lower but doesn't include any warranty.
