Yep, from what I understood the general rule is compressor versions are good in warmer areas and use less energy but can't dry as well in colder rooms, whereas the dessicant versions can work well in colder areas but use more energy and aren't great in the summer due to the heat output.Pros and cons of each type.
Desiccant vs Compressor Dehumidifiers
When choosing the right dehumidifier for you, confusion might arise from deciding between the two different types of dehumidifiers: compressor and desiccant. Whilst both fulfill the same purpose by extracting moisture from the air, they achieve this via different methods. Compressor...ecoair.org
Ours went on a few days ago. Shocking how much water it sucks up overnight.Still not put ours on yet, still warm enough outside to have all the windows open a little and the heating is not on all day yet.
Soon as that changes the windows get closed and the dehumidifier stays on until the weather warms up again.
Has anyone tried the cheaper Meaco filters listed on Amazon and Ebay?
I assume they are knockoff copies!
I've still got the one mine came with years ago sealed, didn't feel the need for HEPA. Also as it reduces the amount of water it can extract I just leave the plastic mesh one on to catch general dust.
Thats really small unithttps://www.diy.com/departments/tcp-smart-white-smart-12l-d-dehumidifier/8720039609686_BQ.prd Going to get this got a £20 voucher so makes it £80 so hopefully it will be decent

I set mine to about 40 or 45, that seems to keep the majority of the house around 55.Does everyone stay at the default 55 humidity setting over winter or set it lower?
Normally about 45 during the colder months, 50 or 55 during the warmer months and laundry mode when required.Does everyone stay at the default 55 humidity setting over winter or set it lower?
Been reading and watching lots of reviews on dehumidifiers today.
Meaco seems to get good reviews but are they worth the extra money over the competition? Is it a case of just paying for a name, or are they actually that much better?
I keep looking at the Arete 2, but there's a lot of others half the price.
Does anyone have real world experience between budget and premium brands?
