What film did you watch last night?

The Accountant 2

Quite an odd sequel and lost a lot of what made the original so good. It was like it had been filmed by two production teams and edited together.

There were about three scenes that might be in the top 5 silliest scenes I've seen in film.

As a standalone film it was entertaining enough I guess, but the quality was very much in the made for TV camp. I'm surprised it had a theatrical release, I would have felt conned if I saw it at the cinema.

5/10

Finally decided to watch across the spider verse as i really liked the first one and was waiting till the third one was closer to completion so i wouldn't have to wait so long, but I've just seen it's been delayed again .
Both films are brilliant and i think are 10/10
Oled and hdr bring it to another level, i think it's the best superhero series marvel have done. I'm so bored of the usual dross they keep churning out and i really hope the 3rd film does the series justice.

The Running Man (2025) - 6/10

Too long and slow in the middle makes the running man feel more like a walk at times.

The story has plenty of commentary on the power of corporations, fake TV and the uprising of the common man, but it still lacked the bite the messages really needed.

It was entertaining enough with some good visuals, world-building, action scenes and light humour, but overall, it wasn’t particularly memorable and the supporting cast were underused.

Severance (2006) with Danny ******* Dyer. Also has everyone's favourite from the crappy Alien Earth in it - Morrow/Babou Ceesay.

During a team-building retreat in the mountains a group of sales representatives are hunted down one by one.
Gave this one a 7 just because of several laugh out loud moments and how decently made it was. Enjoyed it a lot.

Also saw Caddo Lake recently. Won't give away anything but it wasn't what I expect at all, very good indeed. 7/10.
When an 8-year-old girl disappears on Caddo Lake, a series of past deaths and disappearances begin to link together, altering a broken family's history.

Airport 75 - The crazy one where the later comedy, Airplane, must have got most of its inspiration. Single engine plane rams a Boeing on the flightdeck killing most of the crew and leaving the pilot blind and semi conscious, leaving the stewardess to fly it down. Until Charlton Heston swings in through the hole in the fuselage and takes over. We have nuns with guitars, sick kids needing organ transplants, drunk new yoik businessmen and George kennedy had a handful of lines just to put him in the movie. What's not to like, apart from the movie itself. 5/10

 - best review I’ve read for some time :D

Nothing but the Truth (2008)

Kate Beckinsale plays a journalist that faces federal prison for refusing to reveal her source. This had a lot of potential but never really amounted to much and ended up being quite boring. Eventually finding out who the source is will only help a little bit with that feeling that you wasted your time. The supporting cast are full of names but are mostly underused. For me, Matt Dillon comes across more like his Pat Healy character from There's Something About Mary, without the teeth, than a genuine federal prosecutor.

4/10

I finally, at the age of 37, watched 28 days later. It's a strange one. The quality of the image, dialogue and direction seemed unexpectedly bad. Baring in mind that Danny Boyle did Trainspotting 6 years before, I feel like the direction was worse in 28 days later.

Im no film critic so maybe I'm missing the point, but it wasn't what I was expecting

I agree. It’s iconic and important, but quite shallow and doesn’t hold up at all.

The later two films are not much better either in my opinion... not sure if you've seen 28 Weeks Later yet, but I had a good laugh with @Nitefly about it

28 Years Later was a strange one. Without going into it too much, there were parts that I liked, but a lot more parts to the story that I disliked.

Though, I'd be interested to know what you think of these later two!

It was shot on early digital cameras, which is why it looks bad. Think it was lucky to be 480p resolution at the time. Gave it that really grain lofi look. Was also done handhold to give it that indy film appearance.

Yeah that's fair enough, I did read that online after watching. I think my main gripe was the dialogue didn't seem to flow naturally. Again as I said I'm a fan of Danny Boyle and I'm no film critic, maybe there's a deeper meaning behind it which I'm missing; it just seems way off compared to his other films.

I will be watching the other 2 shortly, I'll report back :-)

Keeper - A so-so horror/chiller about a couple who go to stay in a remote cabin in the woods for a weekend but the guy gets called away on day 2 (he's a doctor) and then the lady experiences really strange happenings.

It was ok but a bit mixed up I thought. I'm not sure I fully comprehend it all but I got enough. 6/10

Good Fortune - 5.5/10

It was okay. I like Aziz Ansari in Parcs and Rec, but didn't like the comedy he did himself. I thought this movie was okay. A little formulaic and yes, Keanu is very wooden, but it was an okay watch.

Random youtube algorithm brought up Cannonball Run (1981) which is now free to view. Action comedy based on the famous car race across America.
It had an all-star 80's cast, although for me Domino's DeLuise as captain chaos & Jack Elam as the doctor steal the show.
Still good fun to watch, even if it is very 80's.

The standout part of this film is the intro & I'd still rate it as one of the best intros ever to be made.
Although in the free to air film, for some bizarre reason, they've muted the sound of the Lambo. So if you just want to watch the intro, youtube the intro only.
7/10
Intro 9/10
