Road Cycling

and the fact they're used by so many pro cyclists/trail runners where visibility is a huge importance helps give them credit.

I almost got them when they ran the same promotion last year, but didn't and ended up paying probably £30 more for 2 pairs when i did eventually come to order, as there is usually 20% discount codes floating around. Worth noting that both my pairs are polarised but i don't think the "free pair" are, although might be able to upgrade them.

you mean the pro's that are paid to wear them? :p

They review well everywhere, so I may give them a go. And a British company allegedly

Haha well yeah, they're not doing them for free, but the fact they use them on the biggest stage where their career depends on it is a good sign. If they were just wearing them casually it's another thing, but having trail runners use them at events like UTMB where visibility and footing is a huge factor i'm gonna say performance is there too as those guys could probably pick to be sponsored by anyone.

The one slight disappointing thing is i've heard they can be dicks when it comes to returns because they class them as "custom" because you can choose frame/lens colour even though they're fairly standard.

I liked them enough that I bought a second pair.

I experienced very good customer care from them when they'd left a colour on sale that was out of stock. (I contacted after 5 days and no movement in the order, they gave me £80 of upgrades for free.)

I have one pair that are the photochromic, but they don't get all that dark, so I use them for dull/winter days and I have another pair that are darker for bright sunny days. I like that you can see the percentage darkness of each lense on their site.

Yeah. I have some photochromic ones from Siroko which never change much.

I’m half tempted to buy some more Sungods. I got the cycling ones and then the Tempest for driving with gold lenses but I’ve been wondering whether to get some more subtle ones for general daily use. Although i have multiple pairs of sunglasses and think my wife might kill me if i buy more!

I need some with prescription inserts... but prices are lol so I ride half blind.. my correction is only -0.75 so not crazy but I'd prefer to see well :D

Got out this morning as i couldn't sleep. Was pitch black and a great time to test my new Magicshine light. Does an awesome job of lighting everything up, although some descents were a little nervy when moving fast as couldn't see too far ahead.

Absolutely freezing though. Think it said 7c. Definitely need to dig out my thermal bibs if i make this a regular thing.

yeah I think at an actual race you'd notice the difference. Funny enough, I rode the ribble we have with the knobby all-arund g schwalbes and felt the drag on it, checked my watts and they were no different to same route on my other bike with caracal race, got a set of 45c caracal race for the ribble and now it feels much "faster" previously it felt like I had my brake half-on and pads were dragging. Odd feeling but that 6-8W difference in rolling resistance resulted in around 2m extra time around my lunch brake loop. I then went on chatgpt etc to analyze it and the conclusion was that yes, the 8w extra drag on tire would've added around 2m to the time. Now time, wasn't my problem with it.. it was the "feel" of the bike that made me look into it..
Feel is everything, realistically you wouldn't 'feel' 8w drag. Maybe the tread and middle section of the tyre come into it more at those bigger capacities the smoother middle part feeling fast on the good surfaces, then the more grippy middle feeling slower. You ran similar PSI in them? I wouldn't think air volume once you're into those realms to be massively different.

I'm on a 32c GP5000 AS TR on dura ace carbon C50 wheelset which is reasonably light and 21mm ID.
Could be the wheels for me, these Zipp 303 S feel quite 'wobbly' like they're over tensioned or just flex when bumped cornering, boaty with that would be horrible so not sure I'd chance going up to 32 from the GP5000 STR 30 I'm on. My 404 are nothing like them when both riding 28's. They feel much more planted. Took that as being the difference between a £800 and £1800 wheelset!

Yeah and 2 plugs haven't sealed it, it's a huge old slash/cut so going to need to properly patch It, along with 3 tubs punctures in last weekends race it's been an expensive and puncture filled week. .

Got a cyclami a2s. Never been a convert to co2 so always had a lezyne mini. For most of my riding I think it'll be spot on as only my road tyres go to 50psi and everything else is 20 or less...

Run 32s now on the road and you do notice the extra weight when getting up to speed but everywhere else they're better. Grip, comfort, keeping speed up once you're there. Wouldn't go back to smaller.
Rubbish. Good point though I need to investigate 'properly' repairing ripped/cut tyres. I think it's worth investing in some specific tools/glue for it! I've got 3x 28mm GP5000 STR need repairs and they where £60-70 a pop with lots of life left in them!

I'm not sold on 30 being an upgrade over 28, can't feel much difference but didn't do a direct comparison on the same wheels, but both feel 'lighter' and better than the 32 I tried, but again that was heavy solid tyres, would expect modern tubeless ones to be better... Running F 45-R 55-60 PSI here on GP5000STR

Looks like it was good fun. I stuck to roads and cycle paths this morning for my inaugural cycle but was plenty of spray from the wet roads and puddles. I want some full cover mud guards really but fit is a concern, or play it safe with a ass saver wing like that one. In the mean time, ordered some winter 2 bolt shoes this morning to keep my feet nice and warm.
I'm into my Spatz Pro Thermals here but not thick socks yet. Close this morning and this week I'm into double thermals (shorts+warmer+tights over the top), so been slightly overdressed as I'm ready for sub zero and we've not seen a hard freeze , Yet...!

Probably ended up being my longest day of riding spread over the 3 rides with just over 130km and 1300m of elevation and today i'm feeling pretty much fine (excluding the headache from a bottle of red wine when i got home!)
Great riding and great pics! Shame you had a 'mare afterwards - same as last time. Sort your post-event routine out! ;)

Well my Mum has been pestering me for gift ideas, so she's just got me a pair (well two as one one was free).
How much are they? See plenty of people who like them also riders like G who although previously sponsored, still wearing them after retirement - after wearing Oakley for many years.

Still love my Oakley Jawbreakers (3 pairs) and tend to buy a new pair of clear lenses for them every 2-3 years when they get scratched. Used to buy cheap knock-off (<£20) but they're harder to get hold of now... Last autumn got legit Oakley lenses for £45 and will again. Good you prompted me to check and Merlin have them for £44... Then thought to check Oakley website, £49 with free delivery, then got another 15% off for Black friday and a 'member loyalty discount' #winning

Suck it up - you won't get sympathy here! I had 0 and -8 windchill this morning according to my weather app. In actual it was probably 1-2 degrees and the wind making it feel 0 - we had snow flurry thing but ground melted it so was just damp roads with no frost/ice, I missed the winds from the East so only had a 30s blast of the arctic sidewind... Can't wait to ride into it in around an hour to go pick the car up from it's (failed yesterday) MOT.

Yesterday felt colder, had frost on the cycle path and more frozen cars so defo colder wind/air but not actual ice. Hopefully it stays dry now after all the flooding we had - you'll have seen Ewas Harold (Dulas/Dore into Monnow) and Monmouth (Monnow into Wye) on the national news for what it was like. Thankfully river (Wye) in Hereford is upstream of them so didn't burst it's banks and the flood defences they've spent millions on the last few years doing their thing. But all the usual floodplains got covered and are still holding water now even with the main rivers going down fairly swiftly.

£140. With another, different style, free. Won't be using them for a while yet as they're Summer lenses.

Lovely weather this afternoon so popped out for an hour and a half. I don't know if its just me but at this time of year my nose is just constantly streaming due to the temperature so I'm mouth breathing the whole time. I'm also slightly more twitchy around cars because the sun is so low that I don't trust anyone who is going to make a manoeuvre around me. Cars pay little attention to cyclists at the best of times and far too many people think that when you can't see, its totally OK just to YOLO it.

Got the week off work. Decided I’d attempt a proper century today for the first time.

Seems to be a slight issue with the rear brake caliper so it’s constantly rubbing which killed all efficiency and the wind was ungodly. I was doing ~200w and still only 15kph.
We were heading out for food around 5pm so knew I had to be home.

Got to around 60km and was just about averaging 20kph and had done 50% of the hills but decided it waS cutting it a bit fine and whilst I’d probably just about get home in time, it gave me no time to stop for a coffee/lunch and likely leave me struggling miles from home.

Ended up bailing and just did 100km which hopefully leaves me with time to get out again for a few decent rides later in the week.

haven't been here for a while but i see as weather got colder, days shorter, there is less bike talk...

i've been getting ready for Hyrox, and with new'ish job, had no time or will to cycle... bring on December when I will try to introduce bike back to the routine..

Yeah, most of this lot are a bunch of pansies and haven't been out for weeks at this point :p
went out two weeks ago.. broke my self somehow and had neck tension headache for 5 days, love it.

now I have ptsd about going out again :D add lots of decorating that needs doing and cycling is parked in the corner..
