BT Infinity & FTTx Discussion

I don't know what I did but after fiddling with things in adaptor settings I am up to 487mbps which I am happy with for now. That's still 18-20x faster than my old connection. I downloaded a game I have been putting off for a long long time earlier, 117gb in 27 minutes!! That would have taken all day and most of the evening on my old connection.

My cable came earlier so tomorrow I have the nightmare job of routing it under the floor and downstairs but will be worth it for the full speed goodness.

Turn 2.4GHz off on your 'main' network, make it 5GHz and 6GHz only. Then make an IoT network and have it be 2.4GHz only. There's no need to have 2.4GHz enabled on a network that you want to use your laptop, phone etc. on - if you're struggling for coverage on the higher frequencies then add (an) access point(s).

I hard wired 14 connections in my house, took most of an afternoon and evening with 4 of us but glad it was done.
I'm getting a 2.5Gbe link connection from my PC and switch. The AP in the loft is showing a 10gbe link back to the poe switch. That's on Cat5e.

Just finished wiring it up and got this:-

I am pretty happy with that but will keep fiddling with things. It's so fast, no more buffering on streaming services, websites are instant and downloads are so quick!!

A little confused, happens a lot. But is that a BT type FTTP or another type of FTTP connection?

Up until you brought it up I didn't realise it was Highland Broadbands (Lothian Broadband) own network so apologies for posting in the wrong thread. Up to 942mbps upstairs now. Wifey's pc which is next to the router is getting 986mbps!!

No worries. I was just getting s little excited in thinking / hoping that BT had started trialling some symmetric type connections :)

Openreach checker says FTTP 1600Meg down and 115Meg up. BTw checker says FTTP 1000Meg down and 220Meg up. Zen Internet checker says FTTP 910Meg down and 109Meg up. EE checker says FTTP 1600Meg and 115Meg up.

Who are correct?

EE, most likely.

I believe all OR FTTP lines should now be able to deliver a c. 220Mbps upstream but very few ISP's actually sell it. I'd expect Zen to list the 1.6Gbps product as they sell it, but maybe they're not taking orders for it in your area. If I check my address on Zen it says it's available.

BTW checker has always been a bit of an odd one, it says my brother can get 1000Mbps down but he's got EE 1.6Gbps.

The Openreach check shows the current OR profiles which are available to you, whereas the example of the two ISPs shows services provided with overhead.

The OR 1000/220 profile is normally reserved for businesses, but the ISP which comes to mind that offers that service along with 500/150 is https://www.cerberusnetworks.co.uk/connectivity/broadband/fttp

I think its just a standard catchall message that means diddly squat other than we may get around to your area someday, maybe. I get the same message.
It's recently changed to "We’ll be building in this area in the next year". Kind of seems more realistic, there's been no further works since about October, so I'm guessing there must be some issue that needs to be solved. Bit annoying as probably less than 100 meters away, the houses there can order it. They are pole fed though compared to ducted (at least in the pavement) that this bit is, so I guess that was easier to get ready for service.
