Road Cycling

The side of that fork with the disc brake on hurts my soul.

I have told my mate with an aero road bike that its outdated now though.

? Can't really see much wrong with it, but is it the width/clearance along with the blade look of it?

8W faster than an Ostro! (V2). Not sure I could live with the looks though.
The profile just screams like a 3T to me with the front (headtube split & winged stem) looking like the S5 or the Bianchi. Pretty meh - not many of these all out aero road bikes are that pretty anymore. Bold claims of aero though. But we always see those every new release, I consider purely marketing gunk these days and never believe any of them. Obviously going to win a bunch of WT stages after calling itself better than Cervelo and Specialized, just like the V2 and VAM did... Typical yank marketeering ;)

Yes I know you've got a Factor - why I put the winking smiley! :D

I couldn't get past those broad shoulders on the front. But am all for people experimenting with bike design to be more aero.

I had 2 people on 2 separate days comment how quickly I cycled into work this week when I went flying past them stuck in traffic. I'll take that as a compliment.

Its the asymmetric nature of it near the bottom. The non disc side seems to come in OK to meet the 110mm spacing but the disc side comes in way higher and looks awful.

Lovely weather for a ride today. 10 degrees and beautifully sunny.

Definitely performing well after 3 months with Wahoo Sytm. This mornings ride out with a mate who was on a road bike, me on a gravel bike. Result was a new 1 hour power record, that was basically the same as my 1:45 ride average power. I've been toast all day.

First outdoor ride in a while today (been doing Rouvy daily) and noticed I managed to unscrew the adjuster thing on the rear derailleur too much and it's somehow worn off so now it can't be screwed back in which is pretty annoying. Ordered a replacement which arrives next week, not something I've changed before so will be interesting to see how that goes. Gear changing works decently enough surprisingly though even in it's current state.

Went for a 40km ride today which wasn't fantastic as Strava took me down some roads I wouldn't have chosen (ie. in Germany rather than Netherlands) , and I managed to forget my rear light at home - luckily didn't get stopped/fined by police .. as I forgot my ID at home too. I need to buy some winter overshoes and try some different gloves, was about 5C on the ride today and my feet were freezing cold. Hands were quite cold towards the end and difficult to get gloves on/off in between with the sweat

At the start of the year I was 103kg and now down to 86kg - so cycling has definitely been doing me some good (aside from the effect on my wallet)

Turns out its absolutely mental on the roads at the moment and people have gone a little insane in the run up to christmas. Did have a nice lady take the time to stop and tell me theres a tree in the road ahead which was nice!

Amazingly mild weather at the moment. 10 degrees and sunny. Rather wet from all the rain we've had but lovely to get outside nonetheless.

Finally did my first 100 mile ride. Set off early as knew I’d take a while. It was dark and bloody cold at 6c.

Plotted the flattest route I could which was pretty much 30km to the coast, flat for 100km and the climbing back for the final 30km. Totalling around 1200m

Was flying and feeling good till I hit around 110km where I ended up in thick mud where I kept having to use a stick to clear mud out of arches.
That sapped energy and then I hit another similar bit around 145km which was annoying and meant hefty walking.

Overall glad I’ve ticked it off. It was around 70% of the elevation profile of the Traka but I felt I could’ve continued which felt important and added ~ 3 hours to my previous longest ride.

I’m aiming for my first 100 miler in 2026, I had not cycled really for years but got back into it this year, longest was 62 miles.

Good luck

My previous was maybe 75. My legs felt fine with the extra distance and time. Although my knees ached a little on the climbs and out the saddle. Need to try and see how that continues.

Main issue was feeling very weak on climbs. I thought I was feeling alright but equally it could just be the effect of a longer than normal ride.

Should be ok then.

I actually found I missed some hills when I was down by the coast. Which is odd as usually I struggle on hills due to weight. Just all felt quite repetitive.

Added to the thick mud because of recent rain. Don’t get that up in the mountains by me as it all drains down!

Thats because riding the flats is horribly boring and you have to content with the wind usually. I did a ride by the coast near me and I was glad to be back in the hills after 50km on the flats by the sea. Dull and windy. I genuinely wouldn't cycle if I lived somewhere flat.

Also I need to get better at post race nutrition.

Getting home and then going out with the wife to McDonald’s and then a bar and having 3 double IPAs at ~8% can’t be helping anybody!

This is peak recovery, carbs, protein and not that much fat.

Just listen to Goggins straight afterwards to offset that.

Christ no

Huberman i don't mind (within reason. Although his podcasts could be half as long if he didn't repeat himself constantly). Goggins is irritating!

I ended up on Goggins subreddit one day recently, most likely linked via a circlejerk sub and its quite a funny place. All the bros there spouting their "inspirational" soundbites, quotes and stories. Its nearly as good as /r/linkedinlunatics

Club 'Mince Pie Ride' on saturday. A half social one where the various different parts of the club come together and bring a few friends along. 24 of us out - ride to a cafe, as winds where cold everyone went for hot food+drinks rather than mince pies! An effort on the way back then, with the 'fast lads' doing their thing (race guys) and anyone else trying to hang on as long as they can (a couple of us social riders and some CX racers). Put a good effort in to warm back up coming out of Hay. Survived up Hardwicke when a few attacked, was going to let them go on the fast descent afterwards but paced eased and everyone back together. Got shelled on the next climb, emptied the tank and nearly bridged back up, catching a few stragglers we had a 5 up. Rolled a few turns then but the front group (5-6) had gone. Waited for the rest of the group and sang some carols on the rest of the ride home. Damp roads and cold winds but was a good fun ride. Good excuse to get the santa outfit on! :D

Ahhh, I hadn't spotted it being asymmetric, still can't really see it now on that article - and don't care enough about it to bother looking further!

That is a massive difference, really well done!

Great work & long overdue! How has the recovery been? 8.5 hours is a long day out and expect that caused more 'issues' than the legs as you've been going well & regularly getting out!?

Well done, cross off a few more metrics and the imperial is the next step. A few years back I'd try and do one every year with an event for it but it's been a while now, just opportunity hasn't arisen - other plans when my club has done their yearly one and no local sportives. Think my last 'long ride' was the 200km in September 2024. According to Veloviewer I've only done 14 rides over 50 miles this year, 3 of them on Zwift. The longest outdoors was my only organised event of 2025 and wasn't even 70 miles, but lots of club social rides 50-60 miles.

Sounds good, perfect excuse for enjoying them! More and more IPAs around the last few years due to the 'craft beer' craze, used to like trying different ones but think I've actually gone off them a little. Gone back to lagers or when I do have an IPA gone fairly plain originals for a 'known good' (Shipyard/Proper Job/HPA) rather than something with an equal chance of being 'ok' or tastes like it's not finished fermenting, flat as squash and gives me a bad gut. Hate to say it, actually liking Budweiser! Even got a slab of it for the holiday!

Never listened to him (don't really do podcasts) but who is he? Some kinda motivational PT guy? One of my TTT'ers keeps going on about him. It's turned into a bit of a wind up from others as he is also one of the worst for chickening out of hard rides!
