Steam Frame (Valve Index 2)

Yea if your willing to wait. As i said, if its anything like when the steam deck first launched, its going to be extremely difficult to get on launch day 1.

Dont forget, Steam hasnt even given a release or a pre order date for it.

Obviously it would be amazing if steam had a very smoooth trouble free launch typically you would see from the likes of Apple mean as long as u manage to put in an order within the first couple of hours of orders opening, you will get it delivered 48h later.

Correct me if i am wrong but the Steam Frame will use RAM right? And with RAM prices being crazy, i suspect this could affect the price of the Steam Frame, unless Valve have already Bought up the RAM components a few months ago when prices were ok?
i thought they had already started production ? if that was the case then hopefully it wont affect it when it hits the ground, only future production, so if they likely do a micro/oled version im sure that will not be as cheap ass it could have been prior to RAM gate !

They are supposed to have 500K headsets in production. And if the price is anywhere above £600 you will have absolutely no problem getting one at launch.

And yes, the Steam Frame uses Ram and internal UFS drive, both of which will be affected by the current shortages. I would say that's probably the main reason why they haven't given a definite price for the Steam Frame or the Steam Machine. The final price will have to take into account the increasing cost of manufacturing going forward.

That's the rumour, yes, that they have already started production. They are unlikely to do a Mirco/Oled version. That will involve almost a complete redesign. It's not as simple as the swapping the displays like in the Steam Deck.

The scalpers and bots will probably get the lions share

Do you think the demand is going to be that high? If it's priced around £500, maybe. If it's priced around the same price as the Index? Can't see there been much problem with getting one.

*unless they have extremely limited numbers at launch.

Well the nvidia 5090 was priced at 2k and that was sold out in minutes...

A price does not necearily dictate whether something is widely available or not.

As you say, it depends how much stock they will have on day 1 really.

You are comparing Apples to Monkeys. And I am not saying that the price will dictate if it's widely available or not, I am saying that the price will dictate whether this will sell in large numbers or not.

We know exactly how good $999 VR headsets sell. The Valve Index is the 3rd most popular PCVR headset. Yet Valve have sold less than 400K Index Headsets in 6 years. That should show you how niche VR is.

There is very little demand for Headsets over £600. And if it costs over £600, there will be no problem getting one at launch.

Surely, this is for TNA? He is the cheapskate who wouldn't even pay more than £400 for the Frame even if it had Micro Oled displays!!

You should enter it yourself because you aren't going to buy one if it costs over £900, but then again, most people aren't.

me or TNA?

i'm still looking to buy it, but my new PC plans are being scuppered by pricing and availability.. while they dont need to go hand in hand i do need more information on how its going to work :/ and timings

TNA has entered 10 different email addresses already :D

I timed a pc purchase well too by the looks of it, about 6 months ago, wish I'd bought 64GB RAM instead of 32 though. However I timed selling my 4090 badly, sold it for £1000 or £1100 in about January, I think they're selling for a lot more now.

I sold my 4090FE for £1100 but that was to a colleague who I knew would appreciate it and use it and I wanted a quick, no hassle sale. You can get a lot more online but many of those go to China for AI.

I'm going to get one maybe just to see how it compares to the Quest 3 but I'm not expecting a huge upgrade.

Exactly. They need to get these to £400 or less. Then they will start to sell at decent numbers. Oh and we need more games like half life alyx.
