Arc Raiders

Well the trails are done and rewards are handed out. Expedition is now open, I signed up with 5,250,000 in the bank and 750,000 in stash so 6 milly total. I went down in the last trials like @Distracted did, but the way that seems to work is some % of the people at each tier will go down, it's mathematically impossible for everyone to just keep going up, so the people getting insane scores will pool at the top and make the later ranks harder.

Massively up on blueprints, now I have about 75% of them, so the blueprint change will be a great feature for those resetting each time.

Doing well in the event though, I'm now on like page 4, the candle holder things are very hard to get, I ran buried city and was checking apartments for like 20 games in a row to get my 3, there's good into out there on what you need for the later pages so you know what to keep, I'd advise taking a look early to make completing that easy.
Blueprint change? Have they decided not to wipe em?

Been playing a bit recently think Im just over 50 rounds in... mainly solo and free loadouts lmao

They massively upped the drop rate with the cold snap patch.

Then walked it back a bit with the most recent patch that followed.

So blueprint drops are still higher than before. But not like immediately after the winter update.

Blueprints still get wiped if you reset.

Embark have introduced some kind of lag between server and client. Or some other bug that presents that way.

This is different, but perhaps related(?), to the "spamming the interact button" issue they say they fixed in the Dec 18th update.

If I try and buy from a trader and max out the amount it often resets back to one.

If I use the quick wheel to heal or perform some other action, I often end up firing my weapon rather than performing the quick wheel action.

None of this was an issue three (I think) updates ago.

Yup there's a slew of new bugs the patch introduced. Not only does the number reset in buying from traders, but also crafting at workbenches, it's driving me mad. It's literally a convenience feature, that's no longer convenient lol. The "Spamming the interact button" is just typical Embark BS, it was never a problem spamming it, just pressing it once in most instance just doesn't work, (door buttons, pickups, very occasionally loot), and pressing it repeatedly after the first time fails, also fails. It's when you switch position and try again that you can get it to work. Some buttons you literally cannot reach from another angle (for example ones on the doors in the underground tunnel entrances which have a railing next to them) in which case these are totally inoperable.

No, exactly right, these were not issues originally, these were introduced by the update. It points to 2 worrying things.
1) Spaghetti code.
2) Absolutely zero testing.

Yesterday the medium shield literally just disappeared out of my backpack lol. People have UI elements stuck centered in their screen that wont go away, hatches sometimes ping players back out of them every time you try and use them. I've noticed that quick wheel switching sometimes doesn't work as well, I thought that was just 12 of my brain cells misfiring or something but I'm 99% sure that's another bug.

I've noticed way more strange behavior from pops as well I'm not 100% certain what's going on but I have seen like 3 instances where they just stop, you've agrod them to red and they have a direct path to you (often close) and they just don't move.

I've seen that pops thing as well; Fireballs also do it, which makes sense.

And the spamming the interact button comment stank of shifting the blame.

As proponents of AI usage, what are the odds that Embark had AI assist with the code to save on costs, and now it's coming back to bite them in the ass. :D

IMO quite high, I have used AI to help troubleshoot bugs before in code in my own projects. It's surprisingly good at fixing a narrow issues. However it doesn't take into account the wider effects of that change to other parts of the codebase, so if you have spaghetti code and there's no separation of concerns, that leads to fixes in one place causing completely unrelated bugs in other parts of the system. Games like New World were famous for this, they'd fix an issue with filters in the trade post, and suddenly you can't craft something else at a craft bench. In no world should those pieces of code rely on each other they should be isolated black boxes.

Basically AI can't help fix systemic bad code design. It ideally needs re-writing from scratch, which no one is ever going to do, and thus why New world was plagued with bugs for like 4 years. I'm kinda worried Embark are basically going to do the same thing. I mean I booted up The Finals to play 3 matches to get my Arc skin, and I found 2 bugs in those 3 matches. One of them when waiting to respawn the spectator cam would spin constantly in circles while looking up lol. It's like HELLO?! Have you even played your own game?

I'm really enjoying the game, but from the first play the lack of polish was evident.

It feels like it hasn't been properly tested.

They fixed vaulting, but I still get stopped dead by ankle high objects while running. And I continue to have trouble moving past or over some terrain when I try to climb or vault it. It's like the terrain isnt properly represented by the image I'm seeing on screen.
Which I know is actually the case in some instances, because I've seen my character climb well beyond the boundary of an object (twice the height in the instance I'm thinking of) and into thin air to get over it.

I got completely stuck on some road barriers and had to get a passing team to down me to get free. They thought it was some sort of trap...

I have experienced similar bugs so either they were there just not firing or as you say the patches have opened up the holes. As above have mentioned, the terrain vaulting and obstructions has peeved me off since day 1 and they still have not done much effort on improving it. Instead of releasing new maps and rushing in additional content, I prefer they polish off the original stuff first and trickle out QoL improvements over the current tactic.

Do these companies not pay attention to similar games who have already been through this? I mean I played helldivers 2 and they made stupid decisions, spending a few hours on that feedback and gameplay would give them a massive shortcut to quick wins..

What benefit is there to resetting?

Taken from here.

Permanent Unlocks:

  • The Patchwork Raider outfit
  • Scrappy Janitor Cap
  • Expeditions Indicator icon
  • Skill points (depending on Stash value)
  • +12 Stash space

Temporary Buffs:

  • 10% repair buff
  • 5% xp boost
  • 6% more materials from Scrappy

When the Expedition departs, all items in your Raider’s stash will be contributed toward it. Your next Raider can earn up to five skill points based on the total value of your Stash and Coins at the time of departure. One million Coins worth of value equals one extra skill point for your new Raider.

It's great. You'll be cautiously minding your own business when a snitch will spot you and call in his mates. To avoid them you make a run for it, but accidentally aggro a leaper on the way. So now you're hiding trying not to die, when a rocketeer flies overhead and hears all the commotion, and because they can shoot through windows you run to the other side of the building where you get set on fire by a fireball, and then a pop goes bang next to you. Naturally you **** yourself and panic so you run right in to the line of sight of a bombardier's spotter who then shines a laser beam of loldeath on to you and precisely 27 milliseconds later a grenade gets shoved so far up your arse that you can taste it. You lie there with your shield all busted wondering whether to quit or wait it out in the hope that someone finds you.

And then a ******* robot spider runs past and laughs at you on the way to murder the guy holding the defib.

Good times.

So yeah i decided to test out these "carebear" pve enemies :) and had an absolute blast doing so as ive had some great fights with them .
Lets just say im now more than ever convinced a PVE only option would be an excellent addition.
Maybe populate the map a bit more with AI enemies, maybe give less xp for pve only runs and reduce rewards or whatever but the ARC`s are just too good feature and so well done to not make it happen.

In a weird way while im really enjoying the game its making me want to get back into Escape From Duckov, that game has soooo many quests and absolutely cracked AI enemies.
I can now understand why so many call for Arc Raiders to be GOTY it really is special.

As I've (and some others) have mentioned, a PvE only option would only work if you couldnt complete the quests in PvE mode and you couldnt collect blueprints in PvE mode and you couldnt use gear you've collected in PvE mode in PvP and I suspect, given those caveats, PvE might not prove as popular as some might think.
