The Fountain Pen Thread

Or try to find good examples of vintage fountain pens. All my best pens used to be old Pelikans, Parkers and i had an amazing old montblanc 149

Go back further in time to the early 1940`s and one of the best fountain pens was created, the Parker 51.

I used to buy loads of them that were sold as dried up spare or repair. You could strip them down, refit a new ink sac and get them working like new.
The plasic used was superior to modern plastic and i could polish them to look fantastic. They often had no signs of warping, shrinking, bulging, cracking or discoloring. They used really good materials that have stood the test of time.
As long as the nib was good i could do a full restoration job on them and they would write so nicely.

It was so satisfying to bring them back to life

I bought some ink to go with it as well. The Pelikan nib writes very wet so I bought their specific ink, which is quite a dry one.

It hard started, they replaced it. The replacement hard started, they replaced it. The replacement hard started.

I asked for a refund, I've just got my refund.

*sigh*
Ouch. That sucks. Do you have something else in mind or just going to wait for a bit?

Yes, I had a Parker 25 cartridge pen and ballpoint. Brushed stainless steel - really nice looking pens and chunky to hold too.

Why do you pretend to be in Brazil all the time? Or are you in Brazil and you just pretend to be in the UK, as well as pretending to be a girl.

Nope, nothing else at the moment. It's a shame, I really liked the M1000, the size is good, the nib (when it wasn't hard starting) is fantastic, and I think it looks great.

Anyone know what happen to Namisu? I absolutely LOVE their Pocket titanium pen, in fact nabbed 2 just in case. But their used to be a whole variety of them, and now they seems to be selling out the remaining pens...

I'm looking for a fountain pen currently and its all a bit overwhelming so I was hoping someone here could help.

Budget £50-75
weighty (bad handwriting and I find this helps)
Preferably metal body
not refills
Fine or Medium

I used to use a parker 25 many moons ago but there doesn't seem to be anything close to it currently but thats the sort of thing I'd love.

are we talking daft money?
Yes.

The one I posted above in post #114 has already gone up by £40 since I bought mine. It's stupidly expensive for what is 'just' a pen. But... And I know this is going to sound utterly bonkers: I sort of feel that it's worth it. Whenever I hold it and use it, it puts a smile on my face. It's a big pen, it feels comfortable and smooth in my hand and it writes phenomenally. There's no hesitation, no problems starting. To use Apple parlance, "it just works".

I'd been pondering one for a couple of years and finally bought it with some money I got from an insurance claim. I expected to feel buyers remorse after getting it but it's the opposite, I'm really glad I did.
