5090 worth it?

 I remember seeing 5090's for below £1999 last summer.

There were a few of the the cheaper models, Zotac core etc, that hit circa £1830 for a few days.

Kind of glad I picked up a used 5090 for just a couple of hundred pounds more than I was able to sell my 4090 on FB marketplace now.

£2,600+ is definitely too much for most to consider.

Nobody seems to have mentioned the main benefit of having a 5090 yet which is you get to put it in your signature so everyone on the forum knows how cool you are.
Coolest card to put in your signature was the Titan V, I still have mine.

I don't use it anymore as I have a boring 5090 for everyday stuff.:D

Having said that the Titan V can still run all the games I play at 2160p.

Just checked the 5090 prices and they are crazy.

The Asus 5090 Astral I use has gone up by £400.

The 5090 is not even close to being a full fat die so it is crazy to see them selling for those prices.

When we were using the 1XXX series the 1080ti filled the same place in the market as a 5090.

The crazy thing is you could get 4 x 1080ti cards for less than the price of a 5090.

Honestly though if your just a casual gamer (I can only speak for Nvidia) a 5060ti 16GB (1440p) or a 5070ti (4k) will do the job perfectly especially if you use the Geforce Experience for the games it supports.

DLSS + MFG if you need it will make the difference.

If one really wants to go all out but keep it sane a 5080 is also viable but how much better it is than a 5070ti and if it's worth it is down to the individuals pocket money.

The Titan XP was the 5090 equivalent.
The difference is that the 1080ti was only a small stepdown in performance even though the price difference was huge.

Well I had a Gigabyte RTX 5090 Aorus Master in my basket since the weekend, checked out after the price went up yesterday and was very pleased that OCUK honoured the lower price from the weekend. I already have a case, AIO and PSU on preorder so will be finally getting rid of my full loop I've been swapping components in and out of for 20 years or more. I'll do a cpu/ram/mobo refresh when prices settle down again.

Edit: Thank you OCUK! the 3-5 day free delivery was "next day" too :D

im still toying the idea but i left it late. not like i cant afford but , it seems silly at these prices when it was at under 2k originally, they should be going down not up lol

Titan XP was a full fat die.

The 5090 is nowhere close to being full fat die.

The 1080ti was very close to being a full fat die, hence it had performance very close to the Titan X and Xp.

In past GPU launches there would be

A full fat card like the Titan Xp

A near full fat card like the 1080ti

Then there could be a very cut down card filling a mid to high end niche that would be like the 5090.

Or putting it another way Nvidia are selling us cards that are barely out of the mid range and placing them at the high end price point.

I am very reluctant to spend much on PC hardware these days because of Nvidia's greed and poor design.

Great post. It's like they think we forget these cards existed. And as for poor design, I'm a bit doubtful that 5000 series cards are as well engineered as past cards.

Open goal for AMD and such a shame they don't seem interested in taking advantage of it

I caved in a bought the 5090, I use 4k since oled monitor and only really got the 9070xt to tie me over until next gen and looks like nothing is out for a while, let's hope I don't regret the extra coin on the 5090

That will depend on the difference your eyes will actually see, only then will you see the value of the extra coin.

And the above depends on the use case. For example, if you use VR at high res, you'll definitely see a big difference. However, if you're 4k gaming and like every setting at ultra, that difference may not be as stark as it would be with the VR.

But you're keeping your 9070xt while you test right?

I won't get rid of 9070xt untill I know I'm happy with 5090, but then I'm abit of horder and don't like getting rid of parts, I've got a old vega 64 nitro + and a 6800xt just spare also

Nothing wrong with any of that! I'm a bit the same. When I was considering a 5090 and new system, I knew I'd still keep this 4080 FE Super. I love this card, it's proving its worth 2 years after I got it. And I thought I was late to the party back then, I thought performance would have increased far more with the 80 variant of the 5000 series.

Turns out only the 90 class of card got any kind of performance increase that was worth having.
