Maybe it's always been this way. But I've never seen it so apparent in people's arguments now.

People just shout thier same opinion louder when challenged. Seriously worry about if democracy is even a worth while for of government anymore vs say monarchy.

If vast swathes of the electorate can be manipulated into believing lies then democracy becomes a tool for the influencers.

Sure sure, I know this is the case throughout history. But it seems like we are going backwards. Never before has misinformation been so easy to disseminate nationally.

Even more bizarre is the Jewish community there receiving Nigel Farages visit with positivity.

The man who according to many people he was at school with sang "gas them".

I do think however we need to be reminded that globally the "West" as a concept is under attack, we are in an era of a New Cold war, there should be no pretence that we are not, and these points below are why its making matters such as these worse, not just Israel and or the actions of Netenyahu.
  • The "West" that the US has been the figurehead for is unfortunately currently being run by perhaps the most divisive president in its entire history for a second term.
  • The strong pillars of "West" outside of the US, also in my estimation have a leadership crisis as well, They are not popular, they are struggling to bring people together, and they are struggling particulary because they face all of these points collectively, in addition to the heavy burden of running a country day to day, and the unfortunate fact that politics is not just about decision making, people by nature are corruptiable and heavily influenced.
  • State sponsored espionage and cyber-attacks are occurring and being planned on a daily, usage of AI and social media to deceive and to stir up nests of communities or on where you lean politically. The news can be factual or mixed or far too early to judge but its being sent directly to a (lets face it) screen addicted generations, I include myself in this, with the demands of instant justice, or trial by audience. In other words not just cyber attacks, attacks on human psychology, appealing to the tribal baseline within us all.
  • All of the supposed positive values of the "West" are considered fair game to exploit, such as the right to protest, freedom of speech, anything that causes unrest, division is the goal, they have the tools, they know the vulnerabilities and its business as usual, and at times like these all too easy to exploit.
Mix all that up in a bowl, add some more ingredients and slowly bake and the results that you see are on-going throughtout the "West".

Making a judgement on someone you’ve actually interacted with is one thing. Blanket-declaring you wouldn’t be friends with anyone who’s religious is just impressively silly, especially from someone whose social circle sounds like it could fit comfortably inside a reasonably sized wardrobe.



Plenty of bedroom-dwellers have formed very strong opinions on things they have no real experience of. It’s practically a modern art form at this point, with some making a living from it.

I'm glad you saw your error and I accept your apology.

I think religion isn't real so those that believe in religion I do not take seriously therefore do not want to be friends with them.

Do you need a "real experience" to not like something, I use my brain to know I won't like certain things without having to have a "real experience" of it.

You’re entitled to think religion isn't real, but most of us manage that without deciding anyone who disagrees is automatically unworthy.

Using your brain to reject millions of people you’ve never spoken to does feel like a convenient way to feel superior without ever having to test those opinions in the real world.

I can guarantee you absolutely 100% for sure that you take religious people seriously. Just because they don't tell you they're religious, doesn't mean they're not.

I've been friends of acquaintances with people for years and not known they were religious, until I happened to find out by chance.

Which kind of shows how silly that was. A story whipped up in the Guardian about a fourteen year old boy.

Not that im a fan but we have all said and done unwise things at that age.

You’re dismissing an enormous group of people as not worth your time based purely on what you’ve decided in your head. Most people would call that feeling intellectually superior. You’re welcome to call it something else if it makes you feel better.

I truly, truly don't understand sarcasm, like at all.

It's not about worthy or not, it's about I know we won't get along so why upset them with my viewpoint?

I'm not dismissing them, I'm purely saving them from having to interact with me. I'm doing them a favour.
