It's too hot :(

Got the 9000btu portable air conditioner out that we inherited. Bought a window seal kit from screwfix. Got it all setup and vented. Turned it on to max. Left it two hours. It's done sweet fa. Gonna sell it and go back to windows open and fan on.

Apparently the single hose ones are by the laws of physics rubbish. Dual hose ones that suck in fresh air from the window as well, are better. Looks like you could convert a single hose one with some cardboard/plastic tupperware/gaffer tape etc and an additional tumble dryer hose. I cba.
If you stood in front of it was the air actually cold, 9000 btu isn't very high so if its a big room or it catches the sun a lot its going to take longer to cool the room but the air its blowing out should be a lot colder unless its developed a fault.

A school I was working at moved the ICT suite and they cheeped out on the air con for the new room and got a portable unit instead of the split type that was in the orginal room. Obviously it wasn't as good as the split units but it did well to take the edge off the heat considering there were 32 computers, a projector, 30+ children and an adult or two.

Edit:
I missed your post saying it was blowing cold air so it sounds like its not powerful enough for the size room although it would need to be be on longer than 2 hours to bring the temp down a lot. I've seen multiple social media posts about super markets emptying their freezers because its too hot for them to keep everything cold enough so you can only expect so much from a small portable unit.

My moms place is a corner property and has 3 big windows so cooks in weather like this, my sister has split air con, but I rent so can't poke big holes in the walls so made do with having the windows open when the temp dropped over night then closing them up again before it started to warm back up.

It blows cold. With AC it got down to about 26.0. Still poor, but it is a loft conversion and on one side of it is the pitched roof which gets uber hot. When I turned it off and went back to fans and windows open, it went up to 30c within about ten minutes. So it was doing something to be fair.

Sounds like it was just too small for the job then, I've occasionally seen 12000 btu portable units advertised and just found out that you can get 18000btu portable units as well which I didnt know.

My brother in law's mate got certified and has a side hussle installing air con so my sister got her split air con for mates rates; for a loft conversion ideally you would want a split unit and then some solar panels on your pitched roof to run it all ;)

Hottest I have ever experienced was about 45c in Nicosia Cyprus. It was disgusting.
My mate used to live in Rome and I would visit him. One of my visits there landed in a summer heatwave.

He had no AC in his flat. His flat was 43° and it was biblically hot. It was so bad that I just went home. I think I would have become seriously unwell from heat stroke.

Can't we just all, including the lizards in this thread, agree that 30C+ is bonkers? Days like today are more tolerable, although still not as cool as I'd like. At least for me, stepping outside didn't feel like a direct furnace with today. I can breathe in the house too.

16 degrees right now! This is much more comfortable.

It's weird and annoying that heat is building up again just for tomorrow, and cooler from Friday onwards.

Anyone have those Dreo stand fans with the 8 speed? Is it significantly better than those regular stand fans?

I've been looking at them I also see another called Levoit 20dB Quiet Smart Pedestal Fan I probably bite once it goes on offer again which seems often been reading through the reviews, for sleeping quietness and it's efficiency

Better today down here, also got a dehumidifier which is helping a little bit. Also must remember to put my window on the latch when the cats are about cos they nearly jumped out onto the shed!
