iRacing

I really wish I could drive a real GT3 car (or lmp3/2) so I could know which driving model is more realistic between iracing and LMU.

Jimmy has done a video on this recently with his IRL car that's in iracing.
Yea I think I saw a bit of that. I've seen a few of these, James Baldwin's seem pretty good from what I remember

I saw a formula ford driver who said he prepared for his first time at Donington through iRacing, and he said it was literally exactly the same - the car and the track were exactly as presented. But I'm sure I've seen opposing takes on that matter so IDK.

Stop worrying about which one is more realistic. They both have positives and flaws but both are realistic enough at this point to have a good and authentic feeling time.

That said, there is a reason there is a never-ending list of drivers from F1, F2, F3, IMSA, WEC, NASCAR, Indycar etc on iRacing and not LMU.

That reason being the physics are more than good enough and the platform/service is multiple levels above everything else.

I didn’t realise how few people do the clio cup. Had a race with just 5 people in it. Ended up doing the advanced mx5 on the ring and enjoying that.
I had big plans to race Clio this season but the dead lobbies just not doing it for me.

Back on the mx5 rookies and advanced if I have the track.

Yeah, iRacing be like that sometimes... at least it's easier these days to see how often races go official/split via the ui but still some series that are just dead unfortunately.

You could race the clio in the PCC but when I did that a bit ago there were often only 2-3 clios still :(

How is everyone's season going/gone now it's second to last week?

Plan was to focus on the GT4's which has been a bit of a struggle if I'm honest, part of that was starting out the season using a wheel stand and the hassle of setting that up was preventing me from practicing as much as I needed to. Upgraded to a GT Omega Prime rig during the season and it's glorious, I basically spend my non-work PC time sat in the rig so hopping in to do a bit of practice now and again is actually doable without any hassle which is nice.

Definitely getting the hang of the McLaren GT4, still only generally getting 1 race a week, and actually with holidays etc only just gonna make a full 8 weeks out of 12 for the credits, but decent amount of practice and getting some pace and handling the cold tyres better so feeling much happier with it all.

Planning to stick with the GT4 next season but with less holidays, the new rig, and some more comfort with the cars/tyres I'm hoping to both race more and improve yet more. Gonna try and find time for some of the 'shorter endurance' stuff (think there's a couple of 2 hour series with it) as well as open setup 30 minute racings as 20 mins is a bit short really, even if I can still kill my front tyres in 20 minutes

Daytona was a shocker, not 1 clean race, was cleaned out every race, only few races at Atlanta this, not bad tbh, though being multi class, hearts skips a beat from diving hypers

me as GTP/LMP2 approach

Protest! Answer to all things :p Seriously though I would, doubt he'd get banned but at the least get a 'rejoin safely idiot' type response maybe...

Yeah, it's kinda the age old problem of a safety rating/protest system that seems fine in principal but is based on a company wanting to make money, they're not gonna ban many people because it's lost revenue. Do wish at times they could be a bit harsher though.

I mean incidents like this, in isolation, should probably just be a warning I feel. But second time if they DQ'd or something based on a protest. Third time add some number of incidents to their SR record to demote them a licence level etc. So not banning but some actual real 'punishment', either they'd be back in Rookies sharpish or they'd actually learn to rejoin safely...

Meh, if it's not happened in 17 years it ain't gonna happen I guess.

Did everyone see the dev update blog post yesterday? Some good updates it feels like, although I worry the new MX-5 will be some neutered boring mess like the M2/GR but not likely to race it anyway. Quite a few track overhauls all 'for free', new Caterham cars as a two-for-one, new physics (performance only) update, good 'qol' stuff it seems. Also some stuff on the Career mode that could be interesting, never tried the AI/Single player stuff cause it doesn't interest me but I hear the AI is good enough and the career mode would likely interest me enough to give it a go...

Yeah, I can see them being a lot of fun but can also see them being a relatively dead series...

The GT3 wannabes won't want to deal with a car that has no ABS/TC, too hard for them :p
