Elder Scrolls VI Announced!

Honestly I'll take Creation Engine loading screens over Unreal Engine stuttering :D . Oblivion remaster was awful.

Didn't find anything wrong with oblivion remaster, personally.

I do set my shader cache to unlimited in NVApp, though.

Same, there was some minor stuttering with the Remaster but for the most part it ran about as well as Unreal Engine ever runs for me - the bigger downside for me is that drab flat lighting you get with Unreal Engine :(

it really does.

You have a licence to print money with 2 huge IP's and do nothing with them.
Yah except they have, Creation Club the first user created content that Bethesda put their name then the do-whatever-you-want VC content is a cash cow for them now. They're milking it.

Skyrim was/is such a brilliant game that has exceeded even the most wildly optimistic expectations for it. It's still been played today by so many players both new and old. It has transferred to console and into VR almost seamlessly.

I mean, how do you follow a game like Skyrim? How do you make something better than a game whose bad points became part of the game's success? People say it's tragic that they left it so long to make a new one. My guess is that they left it so long in the hopes that people might forget how good Skyrim is so that their next game has a chance of succeeding on it's own merit.
The follow-up syndrome has long been the case aka Duke Nukem Forever and likely why theres never been an HL3 nothing can ever live up to the hype so they don't bother why create something thats almost certain to be negatively received? Better to create something new instead or in the case of Steam rake in the money from the delivery platform instead.

By releasing another game 4/5 years later. Studios seem to have this obsession with each new game they need to leap ahead with the graphics and gameplay.

They should have released Skyrim 1.5, essentially the same game graphically gameplay wise, maybe some tweaks to mechanics that didn't work, and then a totally new world with new story, done.

No way it would take them more than 4 years to do that.

Nintendo did this with the last 2 zeldas and imo it worked well

Except every time a company does the whole "1.5" thing (see COD etc) everyone whinges that that it's just a DLC but more expensive and so on. Essentially Bethesda have moved into that select group of companies where no matter what they do or produce the Usual Suspects will bitch anyway.

That's because cod isn't anything new. Just some new maps. It's not worthy of the yearly updates or whatever it used to get.

A full new world/map characters, story etc is different

Then it's not version 1.5 then, is it? It's a whole new game, which takes time and money. Which was a large part of my point.

What I mean is that new maps on cod is different to a new map on an elder scrolls game. 4 years to create new maps with new characters, but leave the rest of the game play from Skyrim mostly the same, should really be plenty for a good sized team that Bethesda has.

That's what Bethesda could have done, just as Nintendo did with zelda. People don't need zelda to make leaps ahead with each version. Just a solid story and totk made a lot of money because of this. They didn't upgrade every aspect of the game.

We should have 2 more elder scrolls since Skyrimin this time and be looking towards a 3rd imo.

I agree. Similar to New Vegas was to Fallout 3. Same tech and some shared assets but new map and story without the long wait. Everyone happy.

What ones would that be then :rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Edit. Thought FO3 was out after Skyrim. Though tbf, boiled down, Skyrim isn’t that great compared to what came before.
If they think they can just regurgitate their tired and archaic gameplay and engine and people will rush out to preorder, they’re probably right because people are .

I think a lot of gamers are wary of anything Bethesda releases these days. For many, ES6 won’t be an automatic purchase, as it was for previous Elder Scrolls games. Also, because of the huge gap since Skyrim released a whole generation of gamers has grown up without any sense of nostalgia or desire to play the series. Bethesda has a lot of work to do to capture the hearts and imagination of gamers again …. and that includes updating their technology which is stuck in circa 2010.

If this news broke a few years after Skyrim I would be quite excited , too many things have happened since notable too many BAD things have happened since with their releases that has really put my off. There is actually an interesting Youtube indepth look at why Beth are incapable of releasing anything of quality anymore.
Elden Ring, Crimson Desert have shown there are other developers out there too now that not only can make a good game but also set the bar higher then the Elder Scrolls rebaked method.
