Music production PC

Yes. Although I didn't get myself to use it much yet before I change my pc setup.

Last year after decades of single pedals and some top range multi pedals I bought the ToneX Pedal which I use on stage.
Last year IK did a buy one product and get 49 free so I bought a ToneX One for £130 and got around £10,000 worth of software free which includes all the Signature Collections.
Two weeks ago I bought an Airstep TX so I can control it better on stage because I have it at waist height to get at the main controls.

It doesn't make a lot of sense. I'm going without GPU in music production for years. Ram and CPU is the key. Some plugins and effects (like cab mirroring) are using resources of GPU to build it quicker but it's not a majorly draw resource.

What he's saying isn't necessarily wrong, but you're talking about the difference between someone doing this on the relatively lower end for personal use vs high end specialist studio setups.

I helped a friend of a friend build a DAW back in the mid-late 2010's, he was pretty clued in thank god and knew exactly what he wanted/needed so on my end it was simply suggesting components and aiding in the build (and he did necessitate a GPU). The machine ended up setting him back around the £10,000 mark, and I dread to think what that would be now when you consider inflation and price spikes on components.

That said, the guy worked in the movie industry or along those lines and wanted a work from home setup he could use when not at the office/studio. We're talking him synthesising full on orchestral tracks and all sorts of crazy stuff, so really not comparable to what (I assume) you're aiming for.

If he worked in the movie industry, it's understandable he needed good GPU. At the end he had to edit and attach the sound to the movie. It's already video editing domain and GPU is becoming crucial. The only situation I could need it, is if I'd try to capture the image of the sound of a particular cab onto toneX or cortex 2. It's building it like an image and using huge amount of data in stealth mode. That's where GPU would come useful to me. Everything else I do is CPU and RAM department

How did you get on with this project?

My son did a similar build last year, the consensus then was Ableton live doesn't get on well with Intel efficiency cores so it was better to go with AMD.

9900x with 32gb on a Gigabyte B850 motherboard.

He also does some games so has a 9060xt 16gb, 750w PSU. He still has not finalised his drives, three nvme, an SSD and HDD, but will get there.

From my personal opinion, I found his stock NZXT case fans intrusive, and on power up and sometimes during use, the BeQuiet AIO pump and fans can ramp up which I really don't like, he needs to revisit the settings there, but me personally would have probably preferred a Noctua air cooler and fans. I would be more concerned with an AIO if pushing a 16 core.

So it took me way longer than forecasted, but I ended up with Ryzen 9900x Gigabyte AORUS x870e elite wifi7, 32gb t-force delta ddr5 ram 7200 cl34, Biwin 570x nvme m.2 SSD, Thermalright Frozen Warframe 360 pro AIO, be quiet light base 500 LX case and be quiet fully modular PSU M13 850w. No graphics except the amd one that comes with CPU. Instead of thermal paste I bought Honeywell thermoconductive graphene pad. Ram actually came today so off to building it

I need to build something similar soon. I’m thinking a similar configuration is the way to go, so would be interested to hear.

For the rest I’m thinking mega wide monitor, external dac, decent monitors and asrock live mixer B650.

I don't need dac as I'm using audio interface. The rest I have already. Ultrawide Samsung 49" monitor paired with Mackie MR5 mk3 monitors.
Now the system is put together in clean built. Just few cosmetic and usability tweaks and I'm ready to start dress it with software

I'm not the fan of apple. Too used to PCs

Also i have friends who use Macbook Pros and they are nowhere as powerful as a well built PC system like mine.
Another mate was moaning in the week that he couldn't get ToneX Max on his Macbook cause he'd ran out of HD space and the DAW he installed takes up so much space.
No problem with a well built PC.

Mac is no fun,

My own lads gaming/DAW has came on a bit, another 990 Pro. Montech 1000w Platinum PSU, Sapphire Nitro+ 9070xt.

This week we are hoping to be fitting a BeQuiet Light Loop 360 AIO, but replacing it's fans with BeQuiet Silent Wings 4 Pro non RGB fans, three BeQuiet reverse intake fans too.
