DLSS 5 preview

This is the part that will disappoint a lot of people. Asked directly whether DLSS 5 is RTX 50-series only, NVIDIA answered "Yes, it is." It runs on Blackwell's fifth-generation Tensor cores, and there is no fallback path for RTX 40-series or anything older.

RTX 50 Only
According to NVIDIA, DLSS 5 is GeForce 50-series only, but the modders have shown that it doesn't have to be. Within five days, without the thousands of engineers that NVIDIA has, the community had DLSS 5 running on Ada, on Ampere, on a 2019 RTX 2060, and in games and APIs NVIDIA has never mentioned. This demonstrates that the limitation is software, timings, probably performance, too. I expect official support to broaden, and that's also why I expect player-facing controls eventually. The reason is that there will be never-ending drama about it, resulting in an infinite stream of bad PR for NVIDIA.

So nvidia is basically saying DLSS5 is 5000 series only.. Even after proof of it working just as well on 4000 series.. Again the artificial limitations and segmentation of features.. So DLSS6 will be 6000 series only and that will be the headline feature...... What a joke really...

And in other news regarding DLSS5..

And..

Friend of mine has a 4070 Ti and after some tweaking DLSS5 runs smooth as butter so Nvidia won't be able to claim "5000 series only" for too long with the amount of 4000 series owners running it.

They will make sure to block use of if soon on 4000 series.. Next big driver update that must be used to even allow the games that support DLSS5 officially to even run.

It's Nvidia we are talking about here.. The gimpware kings.. Maybe all the bad press heading their way may change their minds.. But what I am seeing from companies now says to me they will just ignore their customers or basically give them the middle finger and say well update your hardware to use our new amazing A.I features..

Now an RTX5070 is £600 and might rise even further. So at this point,it's in their interest to push something which can justify the new pricing. At the rate things are going an RTX5060TI 16GB will cost as much as a console. IIRC,I remember reading many years ago they wanted to sell midrange cards for console level money.

Started using multi pass for even better results for xbox 360/ps2 era games, best results at 2 or 3 max and with the default settings, using cinematic and natural breaks more with multi pass at least for games with weaker lighting baked in and older titles.

But some of the results I got were impressive for 20-25 year old games.

Oh nice. I still have my 4070Ti which I have been lazy to put on eBay. Price should have gone up on that :D

I think the 5070Ti are comfortably at 5080 levels (£1100+) now across retailers. This eludes to the new mid-range pricing...

Hmm, maybe I should sell my 5070Ti instead

You think I can easily get £800 for it? Put it aside for a 6070Ti

Exchange it for some 32GB DDR5. Then get an OEM 9800X3D for under £300 and sell your 32GB DDR4 which probably have also gone up in price too! :D

Withe amount of time you have suggested this to me, I an starting to feel an itch that was never bloody there CAT

With rumours of AM6 not coming until much later than I thought, I could do this as DDR4 is fetching a decent amount too now, so not so bad.

Honestly if you don't mind getting an OEM CPU some cracking deals are available. Motherboards are cheap now too,but prices will start to rise on them. CPU coolers also are cheap now.

Was just reading and apparently right now DLSS5 uses FP8, The performance jump that they said is coming in the next few months will be from switching from FP8 to NVFP4 which will use half the memory and have roughly 2 to 3 times more throughput.

This is also a reason why official implementations of DLSS5 are 5000 series only as anything prior does not support NVFP4 at a hardware level, Modders will still be able to use FP8 but at a huge performance cost.

How convenient after the huge price increase?

RTX5070 is now over £600. The RTX5050 is now almost £300 and the RTX5060 is over £300. The RTX5060TI 8GB is almost £400!!! The relaunched RTX3060 costs £300 to £350. Even AMD who were holding good prices until a month ago have also given up.

That joins the £300+ DDR5 kits and £200 2TB mediocre QLC SSDs with no DRAM.

I was looking at some budget pre-builts - last year you could eek out a basic Ryzen 5 7600 and an RTX5070 system for £900. Now you are lucky to get a Ryzen 5 5500 and RTX5060/RTX5060TI for the same price.
