EV general discussion

For us, it wasn't about the car at all. It was about the charging infrastructure (and Jenny). As a first EV, we weren't quite ready to run the gauntlet of random public chargers for our frequent trips up to Scotland.

Same here, although they just so happen to be great cars too. For a first EV, Tesla gives you the best platform.

we are likely getting a Tesla soon and will need to lose either the ipace or the i3 (I would sell the i3 but the Mrs loves it and prefers small cars. also we don't need 2 big cars and as she will be the primary driver of the non-tesla I may lose that one).
the thing I will miss with the Tesla over the ipace (apart from looks and driver engagement) is having to have full max regen (1 pedal driving) if I want to have full regen.
the ipace system is much better.... I can have it on minimum regen so it feels like an ice and I use the brake pedal but the brakes still do full regen without using physical braking unless it's a slam on.
the Tesla.... at least the model X from 2019.... cant do this. if you use the brake pedal it uses the physical brakes. for all Tesla's tech this system is inferior to what I am used to.

the extended warranty is up on the ipace in December so now would be a good time to sell giving the new buyer the choice to extend or not .... but a week after getting the battery gimping letter sucks massively

Coming from ICE cars only very recently I found the Tesla system strange for all of the first few drives and then very quickly became accustomed to it.

Admittedly I have not yet driven any other full EVs to compare it to but I really like it now, barely use the brakes (usually only when I haven't been fully concentrating)

Ahhh I knew they'd get you eventually, you were having way too few problems with that I-Pace! :D

I'd let the Tesla go and keep your cars unless you have no choice but to take the tesla?

I never thought I’d see the day a Tesla owner admits they do some things worse than other EVs :)

I am being facetious of course but it was only the most recent Highland and Juniper that had me thinking, “Tesla finally make nice cars”.

I had to make a deal with the devil (she doesn't read this forum) in order to get my import STI, now I also need a sensible family car :D

Is there anything stand out that's making waves at the moment? the only requirement I personally have is I can get from Manchester to Essex in one go in winter. That's 220 miles ish.

I was thinking of
VW ID4
E 3008
Maybe a Q4 etron?

I guess used 20-25k is fine.

Or is it, is used EV a bad idea? I know nothing about them

Seriously fed up with Octopus and the emails and messages from Greg claiming all the price rises cannot be ignored and it’s not his fault and I’m your friend and Octopus have no choice. It’s all crap they are a massive company stand up to the suppliers stick up for your customers or even maybe absorb some of the costs from your year on year record profits. The guy is so damn irritating.

Long moaning way of saying I have moved to EDF. lol

Octopus are becoming just another energy company. The Greg thing is just marketing, their service is like any other big company these days, very hit and miss and often quite poor, emails get ignored etc.

Long way of saying I have also moved to EDF

They have a certain cult image to maintain and it's just marketing. :p

Also fairness wholesale costs are dedicated to them by market structures which are overseen by the government which you can blame a 'beloved' conservative prime minister for.

That said, I am moving to EDF as I've concluded the charge cap is leading to me having to think about how much I can charge the car in one go because I can no longer get enough electricity into my car to do my stupid commute in one hit. I only do 2 days a week but if I empty the car on Sunday, I may not be able to charge it fully off peak to go to the office on Monday.

Lets spread the love a bit from those with twitchy fingers, does anyone who had not yet refereed someone to EDF have a referral code?

edit: sorted!
