I never thought I’d see the day a Tesla owner admits they do some things worse than other EVs
On this, I think the car is great, but for a basic feature the cruise control is a bit of a disappointment at times (on my Highland):
You have to choose between Traffic Aware Cruise Control (TACC, aka adaptive cruise) or Autosteer (aka lane/steering assist). The major problem is that it's not possible to switch between them while driving, you have to put the car in park. Autosteer is very good but primarily useful on motorways and dual carriageways, but TACC is more versatile on normal country roads/general driving.
Autosteer is flawed in that any level of steering input will 'break it' and causes the car to apply the regen braking, meaning you can't make any small adjustments to avoid potholes for example. Nor can you just grab the steering wheel to move out and overtake someone without also pressing the throttle down.
While they are engaged, curvature assist has a bad habit of deciding it should brake quite firmly while travelling along a straight road, it doesn't happen often, but it's too frequent and can be annoying.
It would also be good if you could just use standard cruise control without adaptive, but there's no way to do that.
On the older cars you could double press to switch between TACC and Autosteer, but they deliberately removed it to get the cars ready for FSD (Full Self-Driving) - which may not be available here for years and costs £99 a month anyway. Sadly they seem to have abandoned updating or improving the old TACC & Autosteer system because they are focused on FSD. It's silly really as FSD is such advanced and clever software, they should be able to lift the relevant parts and redesign TACC and Autosteer to make them far better.
Overall it's all perfectly serviceable, but it could be a lot better. I know the Commander unit being mentioned above can circumvent some of this, but not sure of the exact details.
