EV general discussion

Planning the replace my wife's car with an EV - the only car that meets our needs (as it's though an EV scheme at work, so limited choices) is the Tesla Model Y or 3. (It needs a tow bar - for a bike rack)

18 months ago I replaced my car with an EV through the same scheme - back then a Tesla would have been ideal too but Musk decided to go up on stage and give a Nazi salute so we wrote that idea off.

Dear God, why does Musk have to mouth off every time I want to buy a new car. If he would just shut up we would probably have two Tesla's by now.

So, do I hold my nose and buy the Tesla - or put an expensive aftermarket tow bar on our current petrol car. (Dumping our current car and getting a Tesla will work out a fair bit cheaper)

To be fair it’s perfectly fine to buy and own a Tesla. The newer model really are much better than the earlier pre 2024 versions. Better suspension and the Juniper Model Y does allow regen on the brake pedal.

I think though it is easy to lose sight of the fact there is so much choice now because other EVs beat Tesla in many objective ways.

Go test drive a bunch and don’t let anyone else tell you your opinion. Make you own mind up.

So you felt the need to preach? Thanks for clarifying.

Defend, not preach. I don't like being preached at by people who have no idea what my circumstances are, what my beliefs are, how I view life or any other stuff that doesn't concern them.

If someone decides to preach at me instead of trying to have a reasoned discussion, then of course they're gonna get both barrels.

But nobody preached at you, you were not even mentioned. There was also zero personal attacks on any Tesla owners. You still decided it was personal. All the poster you replied to said was that they didn’t like Musk, so we’re unsure if they could justify buying a Tesla.

It seems what you want is an echo chamber rather than a thread were people dare to have different opinions.

Just had the finance approved. I am still staggered at how effortless this whole process is. I'm hoping that given the nudge to apply for finance, I'll be getting a date soon.

They do have the buying process well nailed down, the shifting delivery dates can get a bit irritating (it wouldn't be so bad if they gave you one and stuck to it but they move wildly backwards and forwards)

Worth the wait in the end though!

I wasn't aware of the shifting dates, is this common?

Thank goodness you told me - we're planning quite a trip when we get the car.

My car is ready to be delivered. Charger is installed. I'm not worried about my commute and home charging but I'm going to attempt a run to the Peaks which is within range in a couple of weeks and I can use the charger at the hotel I'm staying at for £20 over night. After that I'm going to the lakes which is about 260+ miles from my house so I will need to stop at some point and use a fast charger. What apps are recommended to set up routes and look for chargers on the way?

So went to charge my #5 (charging beast lol) at the 200kw Ionity chargers and noticed once the battery got nice n toasty at around 75% it was charging at quite a bit more than that. I know people complain at not reaching the charging speed but it’s nice to get the opposite result.

Electroverse linked to your octopus home
Energy is a pain free way to cover a lot of networks and the app in CarPlay works nice enough.

Hey, use my link to sign up to Octopus Electroverse & we both get charging credit!

Electroverse is all I use now, often get a discount off the normal price too.

I find it crazy how fast cars charge now. Here's me happy with 42kW when I had that, it must be like a race now if you want to avoid over charging if you didn't set/can't set a DC charge limit.

yeah, need to sit and wait the 3-5 mins in the car else it would over charge, and i don't want to pay for more than needed
a bit annoying it's too fast tbh (steak too juicy, lobster too buttery #firstworldproblems)

Anyone although it’s a bit naughty posting a referral link on this forum.

Edit: you don’t get the discounted rate for having the IOG tariff, usually 8% off I think.

Edit2: I wonder what will happen as I'm still an Octopus customer and have a live direct debit for my heat pump service plan. I'm guessing I will lose the 8% discount once they catch up but direct billing may still work - not that I have used it more than a handful of times in the last 4 years.
