Bioware Closing Down

Just saw this. What a shame. Been meaning to play ME2 again to have a proper old perve at Miranda again.

Most people can't even decide on what woke means.

Originally it meant being well informed/aware of racial inequality...

It wasn't until around 2019 that more conservative types started using it to bash TV shows, movies, ideology etc.

That's what happens when the world follows the Americans BS way of thinking.

Also when you employ people who care more about their personal politics than developing a game which can sink a company.

This is absolutely tragic news, Mass Effect was really special to me, had a lot of good memories playing that. EA just really absorb and kill everything good.. still miss my beloved westwood.

What is woke? I don’t know but I think I can recognise it when I see it.

A codex that I literally never read.

I even mentioned this (the not reading) in my little summary of the game after completing it.

This is what we mean about internet outrage.

Those same people are kicking up a fuss about a very easily missable cosmetic only pride flag, in a choice of flags, in the latest Gears of War

Veilguard wasn't a good game. As a rpg it was atrocious, something similar to baby's first rpg, as a dragonage title it sucked ass. It was a well below average hack and slash game, with boring and tedious boss fights. Throw all the woke garbage on top and it was a steaming turd of a game.

This entire thread/ situation could be summed up as male gaze Vs male gays.
Plenty of male gazers here!! After all this is the forms that introduced me to Alizee-J’en Ai Maree live performance!! Which I still watch today!!

But why even put this in the game at all? There must have been meetings to go over and sign-off on these messages. What value did it add?
It just highlights how far they'd fallen as a studio.

It's just like that meme:
"Will this add to the storyline, and improve the quality of the game?"
"The what?"

EA employees are describing the recent layoffs (BioWare, Respawn, Motive Studio, Ripple Effect...) as "wildly disruptive," while complaining of "terrible morale" and "generative AI push."

In a new report based on anonymous interviews with current and former EA employees, Vertical Slice claims EA workers decry mismanagement and corporate greed after the company was taken private by a Saudi-led investor consortium in a $55 billion deal.

"A cold dead place that's slowly decaying as leadership pilfers every last cent."

and failing to mention the DEI/WOKE rubbish infecting games as well. But this could be EA's doing.

Also this has been going on LONG before Saudi'Led investor took over! Look at how many companies EA have shut down

There's also the very important factor of, you know. . .

It's (supposed) be be an RPG, people like reading those things and if they didn't they'd surely not be in the game? They also take up development time, so presumably there's reasoning behind them existing in that vein.

"I don't mind a thing/partake in a thing/see a thing, therefore it isn't a problem!" is a pretty bleak and reductive outlook, but in the case of the person your quoting he's at least honest in having not had much interest in the franchise prior.

Those same people are kicking up a fuss about a very easily missable cosmetic only pride flag, in a choice of flags, in the latest Gears of War

No they're not.

The latest Gears of War is a so-so third person shooter at absolute best, they're annoyed at multiple elements -- the weird flags are simply one part of it, and far more blatant when you pop into multiplayer. People were sold a game that went back to the roots with major favourite characters of the original trilogy, for some god forsaken reason an insufferably vocal and constant female companion was needlessly injected into it. And before anyone jumps on the obvious bandwagon, yes I've played it and no I'm not against female characters in games. Mags is bloody awful and serves no positive purpose to the overall narrative of the franchise or the game itself, it would have been better without her in it.

I wouldn't have brought it up at all if you hadn't prior.

There's a rather relevant quote knocking around regarding certain types of discourse being impossible because X or Y people like to pretend they don't understand the argument, or are simply vehemently arguing about things they're not fully informed on.

Constant goalpost shifting, "I don't care, why do you?" and lord knows what else from people who apparently do not care and expect others to feel the same way.

It gets tiresome.

They "never care" when it's the changes they want, but it only ever seems to go one way doesn't it? It's always an existing fanbase they want to move into and change everything to the point of destruction, never something new and original they've made themselves. It fails time and time again because there isn't any creativity or talent, just identity politics and a hatred for what others already created and enjoyed.

The only really good one of the series was Origins, because it was the original Bioware crew (without EA) which made it.

I think the Saudis are going to lose a lot of money with EA if they think they can pump out AI slop. Gamers won't buy it.

You never read it? why am I not surprised, and even now that you have clearly none of the information has registered!

It's like you have a superhero forcefield ability - that means any facts, information or common sense bounce right off. You're like our very own Karl Pilkington, any information that does slip through you manage to entirely misinterpret and turn into something else...

"Captain Miss-the-point".

:D

There are two good Dragon age games. Origins and Inquisition
