^ Sorry but i have to say i have an X5 V6 and there is no way in hell a laptop is pushing out more power than a desktop. It's inherently impossible down to the thermal/power limitations. They are bloody fast don't get me wrong. But the desktop is still a bit faster.

Depends how someone means it - won't top the latest and greatest desktop CPU paired up with high end cooling and an AIB top tier dGPU, etc. but you can certainly put in significant "desktop" class performance with a laptop these days. I took his comment to be enthusiastic rather than a serious claim of dominating the desktop.

When my Samsung was new a lot of people didn't even have 16GB of RAM or 4c/8t CPU in their desktops heh.

Now the v8 has been announced with n-key rollover it sounds like one of the issues that compelled me to return my x7 v7 might have been fixed.

But I'd like to know two things if anyone has any info.

First of all has anything been done to fix the poor Wi-Fi reception issues? Or might that have been some conflict between widows updates and killer drivers? If so does the new version work 'out of the box' now and will the Wi-Fi break again with future Windows updates?

Second there is no mention of the 4k 100% adobe rgb screen anymore. Gaming Is not as important as productivity to me, I don't really care about 144hz refresh vs 120hz, so will the productivity orientated screen option be restored at some point? If not is there anyway I can have a replacement v7 4k screen put into a v8 machine? Even if i have to buy it and do it myself? How could I do the pantone colour matching thing in that scenario?

Hello everyone

I have a Aorus X7 pro GTX970M 3GB version SLI

I can't seem to get it to run very cool CPU is very high around 96° maximum and GPU around 88° maximum and the slave is around 80° Maximum when gaming .

I have 're pasted both the CPU and GPUs and but have not changed the thermal pads yet.

And I can not update the BIOS due to the laptop not having a battery in it ( I just use the power adapter )

WOW that is big writing :D

I found with my X5V6 that a mixture of re pasting and undervolting ( not underclocking ( your performance stays the same)) helped to significantly drop the temps. The undervolting more so even though i used liquid metal. You can use a program called intel XTU to do this, there are many great guides online about this.

@Atom80 the right side screen hinge on my X7 DT v7 has just (5 mins ago) broken! Went to close the lid and the bezel lifted away and something inside pushed it out, I can see a couple of screws but can't get to them. Then the screen went static / snow, and then blank. Came back on after holding power. Can't figure out a way of safely closing the screen at all, slightest movement makes the screen go off and I'm afraid of making it worse. Bought it middle of last year from OCUK. Please can you advise urgently on warranty situation? I'm not sure how I'm going to be able to return it if I can't close the lid!

Edit: found a recent post where @Lynchie435 was having what sounds very much like a precursor to my issue and you gave him the MendIT Ltd contact details. I'll call them in the morning (though I suspect I'll have to wait until Monday)...

Edit 2: Been in contact with MendIT, now waiting to hear back from them. Also uploaded video of the problem here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rpNOx8LmJ8 which shows the tearing sound several other posters have mentioned previously.

Update: received my laptop back from Menndit with a new hinge assembly, new bezel, and a completely new screen too. I'm really pleased about the new screen as (completely separately, months ago) accidentally put a little scratch in the old one, where the keyboard and screen touch sometimes when it's closed. (I lost the fabric protector that came with it).

Anyway, I'm happy, failures happen of course but this was fixed as quickly as possible given parts availability, and I'm very pleased to have my laptop back!

Hi @matzie - thanks for posting, glad your unit is back with you and all "happy"

Hoping I can get some help before I have to send my unit back in for repairs, assuming Aorus will even take my machine back for repairs.

I have a Aorus X5 MD. Just flashed the latest bios but now the system won't boot at all. I used the included Aorus bios update software that comes preinstalled.

It powers on but never bios post. Is there a way to get the system back to the old bios? Are there any keys I can press to have it revert back to old bios? Or am I just screwed...

Thanks.

I've been concerned about the quality of the hinge on my X7 DT V7 since I got it and I'm convinced that at some point it is going to to break in a similar fashion to what's been described by matzie. The thing is I don't use it regularly and worry it'll break outside the warranty period... which I assume is a year? Has this been recognised as a build quality issue? And how would I get this resolved outside of warranty?

Hi @jimjim150 - if you feel something isn't right, please send in for repair. Your Warranty period is 2 YEARS, as it is with all AORUS and GIGABYTE notebooks.

There's not any common quality or faults but as said, if there is an issue that you are not happy with, let's make it right.

Hi Atom,

Thanks for the response. It's more a case of: "it feels like a weak point on the laptop", rather than: "it's defective and needs repairing". If there's a 2 year warranty on it I'll just keep on trucking for now…

@Atom80 I've tried everything to locate an appropriate replacement for the piece of fabric that my X7 DT v7 came with to protect the screen, but without success... mouse mats are either too small or too big or too thick... is there any way I can get hold of a genuine replacement?
