What "man jobs" have you done today?

Finally got around to sorting the back gate. With the hot weather it had warped which meant that the latch didn't line up so it was getting increasingly difficult to open until yesterday when I couldn't open it would taking the latch off completely. 10 minutes with a screwdriver and it's all sorted. I should have done it weeks ago.

Applied the first coat of danish oil on some shelves I've built. Giving a lovely grain so far that will soon be ruined by giving them a shabby chic white wash and sand.

Ahhh chic shadow one of my favourite greys currently my wife has chosen goose down for our bedroom. In the process of painting the hall and office with denim drift

I was hoping for a bit of rain to help the new lawn along - At the moment it looks like it's going to drown - Got big puddles on back slabs which I have never seen before - The front soak away is overflowing - When I laid the pipe I took a Tee off it and put a pipe up and into bottom path round the lawn - That means the pipe is backed up half way up drive - fortunately we have sandy soil so as soon as rain stops it will drain quite quickly. To top it all Ronnie is bustin for the loo but opened door and he said - "your taking the ****". - Only another 10 minutes and we shall get the thunder and lightning the BBC weather forecast promised us.

We just used a grey for our living room as well not quiet sure of the shade but it’s similar, now to pick a colour for our kitchen. Edging towards a bright lime green colour.

We now have a pink hall oooooh! :eek:

Similar happened to mine after 6-7 years, just needed to move the catch slightly.

There's a gated passage-way at the rear of my garden for the houses behind where the same thing had happened. It's not mine, or on my land, but with it never being wedged open or closed I took the liberty of fixing it for them to stop it banging in the wind

Finally got round to sorting out the recent delivery / log staores yesterday ....

Moved all the off cuts / braches and trunks of recently felled trees in the garden to clear the large store

Stacked her up with the delivery

Double stack and shes brimming

New chopping block ready for action (not decided on what to do with the old one on top yet)

hmmmm, logs

The stuff I took out the large store was transferred to the medium store (all seasoning for next year)

Gave that a tidy too

Then that just leaves the small store on the balcony by the front door

Ill do that over the next few days with the "left overs"

And still have two lage bags of smaller braches to use as kindling

. I think he used to always go back in before as there was nowhere to perch outside the cage, but now he has a perch outside the cage the living room is his new cage lol.

I think i'll cut another few branches off the tree and make another stand at the other end of the room so he can fly between them.

So on Sunday night I was screwing down some squeaky floorboards ready for new carpets to be installed on Monday, and I managed to screw through a lighting wire

At first the downstairs hallway light came on when I screwed down which I thought was weird, but couldn't have been sure it wasn't already on and had maybe just flickered, so went and tried the switch and nothing happened

Uh oh.. Took the screw out and the light went off. Flicked the switch again and there was a big bang and everything went pitch black (I was doing this at nearly 10pm..)

Fun times.

Electrician came round last night to take a look. I'd gone straight through 2 wires, fair enough. But then at the other end of the floorboard there was a nail which went through 3 wires, all of which were totally black :eek:

This nail hadn't been put in by me and must have been the plumber who took the boards up back in January to install new pipes. According to my electrician, I probably didn't cause everything to go bang but disturbing the previous fault did. That nail could have been sat there live for the last 9 months :eek:

Good job the underlay was covering it this week and I hadn't gone walking around in bare feet after a shower..

All sorted now, 5 wires spliced and put back together. And a lesson learnt to use a wire detector in future.

Bodged re tiling the backsplash area of my kitchen after a rewire and re skim.
It'll do till we get a new kitchen in the next few years

And (if you dont already have one) get your sparky to replace your consumer unit with a brand new shiny RCBO unit.... That way if anything bad happens it will trip before you die, and a leakage wont kill all the circuits, just that single circuit.

I feed and weeded my back lawn last week and now I have a load of dead patches so decided to pull a few up - as I was pulling the good bit of lawn next to dead patches also came up - so much so I could slide my hand under the grass - Ay up - started to poke around and sure enough Chaffer grubs - Bum - simple scrape and seed has now turned into a major project.

Does it ever end !!!

More to the above post- After Moss-feed and weed the back lawn has a lot of bare patches in it so today I got the scarifier out and blasted the lawn - as you can see there isn't much left- Now on plan B - ordered some nematodes for the grubs - in mean time will carry on scarifying and get as much out as possible - then weed killer it all and then wait till next spring and level and reseed. After doing the front lawn I am not digging this one over.

Not as sprightly as I was at 60 - this is doing me in

First layer of concrete sealant on the garage floor. Fed up of everything being so dusty in there so will give it two coats of this then maybe a layer of grey paint. Going to do a quick coat of cheap white paint on the walls as well (concrete blocks).
