What "man jobs" have you done today?

Had a leaking shower. Pulled off all the old silicone and then the front panel and found that the timber supports on one side were looking a bit rotten. I really can't be bothered pulling out the entire shower to replace the timber and when giving it a whack with a screwdriver it doesn't feel too mushy.

Resealed inside the shower and along the edges etc and am hoping it dries out now i'd fixed the sealant. Will check it in a couple months and hope it's dried out. If not i'll fix it then!

Replaced the noisy extractor fan in the bathroom. Well, that was the plan. Unfortunately, when the house was built, the builders were unable to line up the wall vent, so they used a piece of 100mm drainpipe at a 45 degree angle to link the 2.
I was not aware of this and had already bought a "quiet" fan. It became clear this new fan would not fit, as the bit that goes into the wall was too long.
After much searching, all the quiet fans were 80mm plus. I had about 55mm before hitting the angle of the pipe.
Frustrated, but undeterred, I took the hacksaw to the cowling and motor bracket and just about managed to fit it.
Pretty sure I've voided the warranty though :p

It was worth it. New fan is super quiet.

which quiet fan did you pick up. the fan in my en suite is quite old and having just moved in I can notice it really easily as i'm not use to it yet but was gonna look at replacing it with a quiet one but was wondering if the £55 quid investment would be worth the expenditure

Manrose Quiet from Wickes £30, and it is so much quieter, even with half of the cowling and motor bracket missing :D

Another option is the Envirovent Silent 100. Got it from Amazon and its in the en-suite, Its fab. Struggle to hear it to be honest.
I would have bought another, but I needed one there and then, and it seems only available on line/merchants. Think I paid £24.

Timer versions will obviously cost a little more.

Changed my oven 40w SES golf ball bulb. A bank breaking 91p from builders depot. Hard part was unscrewing the thick glass bowl cover, it felt like it was superglued on.
When I moved in (4 years ago today!), the bulb was gone on my oven so changed it out. It went again a few months ago but I can't for the life of me unscrew the glass cover. Annoyingly I did remove it to take the bulb out so I knew which type to get then put the cover back on until I got it, since then I can't get the thing off again! So annoying. I might try it slightly warmed up.

Slightly damp towel worked on ours, watch though they have a tendency to shatter.

I have never been able to replace ours... It's stuck so far i fear it'll smash if i try harder.

If it's like mine, it's very thick glass and not much fear of shattering it.

This video shows tools that remove them.

I tried the wrench trick in this video below and my bosch oven seems identical, but I couldn't access it that way as the grill element is too much in the way. In the end it just unscrewed after some brute force.

I must admit, I've had this oven for 6 years and this is the first bulb that needed changing, so yours probably shouldn't go after a few months. Maybe try led? My cooker hood used to blow candle bulbs regularly until I put an led in.

Fixed door latch in the living room so the darned thing clicks shut, satisfyingly, instead of almost clicking, feeling like it's firmly shut anyway, then springing gently open just as you sit down with your cup of coffee. I think it's been having a laugh at me for the last two years, but annoyance finally got the better of my laziness.

Actually when it comes to me it's 10% laziness, 20% fear of making it worse, and 70% fear of what a tradesman will think when they come to sort out my bodge.

Of course all they'll really think is "thank goodness people are useless at DIY or I'd be out of a job" (or whatever the Polish is for that).
