I run hardened browser setups (Arch Linux and Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC 2019), with the following:
- uBlock Origin
- uBlock Origin Extra (websocket protection)
- Nano Defender
- NoScript (or ScriptSafe or Brave Script Block, browser depending)
- Disconnect
- Decentraleyes (JS CDN replacement)
- Canvas Defender
- HTTPSEverywhere
- Cookie AutoDelete (Vanilla Cookie Manager on Chromium)
- Privacy Settings (a convenient all-in-one dash for the browser's privacy flags)
- Strict First Party Isolation
- Encrypted SNI
- Encrypted DNS
I also use Ste Black's Hosts File (
GitHub) on my Arch Linux x86 router (Core i7 3770, 8GB DRAM, 128GB SSD, quad port Intel Pro 1000 PT NIC) until I get around to setting up DNSBL again. On iOS I have AdGuard Pro with DNS blocklist/hosts file plus Content Blocker lists for the browser itself.
100%.. Any site that prompts and says "we see you are running an ad-blocker blah blah" just gets insta erased and I never visit again. Life is way too short!!
You need to also add the
Nano Defender (aka uBlock Protector) extension, which is free and open source. Just follow the simple instructions on its home page to add the resource URL and small filter lists to your uBlock Origin extension. It hides the blocker to all sites and those pesky 'We see you're running an ad blocker' overlays go away. You can even verify it works by visiting
BrowserLeaks' Content Blocker test.
Last time this came up no one could help. Can anyone now.
Any app that can Adblock YouTube app and ör chrome browser on a mobile device, or do I have to use 3rd party apps for YouTube and another browser?
Phone is a p20 pro.
AdGuard Pro should do this. If you're rooted you have a lot of other options too.
Can you create Pi-Hole sort of device by only using Linux in a VM?
Yes, you can run
Pi-Hole in a VM on Linux. You can also run the new AdGuard equivalent called
AdGuard Home, which is pretty nice tbh. It runs on Linux and has a really nice dashboard/UI that offers all the usual customisation options, filter lists etc.
Brave breaks mixcloud.com but uBlock Origin in Chrome doesn't. Annoying.
Have you used the custom shield option to re-enable scripts, first party fingerprinting, cookies etc? If you disable those there's no reason Brave would behave any differently to Chromium (because that's all it really is).
