2019: What are your motoring plans?

First things first is find the service book for my Clio 200 and get rid of it, I've never liked it.

Still not sure what to replace it with, in theory I've got £4kish from that and could afford a few hundred a month if I were to finance the replacement in some way. However I'm not sure how work is going to go next year following a take over of the company I work for so I may just buy cash for up to £10k.

What to buy is another thing, I really need to crack on with my supercharged Exocet build which has stalled due to depression and finding it hard to motivate myself. If I do, I'll need a more practical towing capable car to go on track days.

The missus still likes her RS Twingo and refuses to maintain it so she can live with that until it dies.

I plan to keep the Cupra into 2019 but with a little one on the way will be looking to change it to something bigger, plus the lease is up on it next November so decide to swap it or keep it. The Mrs car will be here for another year, giving it costs so little to run and it's perfect for her needs.

Building up my 5E-FTE engine and getting the little Starlet to 300+ BHP, then doing track days until the gearbox eats itself probably end up getting rid of the Corolla Tsport as well at some point for something different. Set me back on building the engine over the Christmas break as the machine shop has let me down saying the block wont be ready until the new year.

Considering a Leaf, purely to reduce costs. Would be sub £10k and would eliminate circa £3500 in fuel and road tax per annum.

We'll be buying a house next year, so nothing grand. My comatose but functional 2001 Golf will probably continue to be a comatose but functional 2001 Golf and drive me to work 5 miles away in a comatose but functional sort of way.

I might try to get my 330ci back on the road but that means tax, MOT, and some faffy repairs; money for which I would much rather went on a house (or rather, fees of some kind )

Get Insight MOT’d and running.
Keep wife’s MINI Countryman, although a remap is tempting to go +200bhp.
Reorder a replacement for Velar, either another one, a new evoque or an XF sportbrake to reduce spend and enjoy TDV6 300PS
Hopefully get across to Le Mans classic this year too.

I try and save as much as I can by working on my own cars but I dread to think how much 2nd hand parts would be on and Aston Martin. On a plus note the Jap cars seem to be skyrocketing in price lately, that puts me down by about -£3K on mine. I screwed it up by modifying it; but it was worth it.

A second car purchase to complement our current cheap commuter, a 2006 Peugeot 307. We’re looking for a much newer and more refined estate suitable for a 2nd dog. The 307 is serving us well, we needed a cheap car for commuting that allowed us to save for a house purchase in the New Year!

Probably won't do much at all on the car front, Ill carry on blasting around in the little 3.2 TT and throw as much money as I can away for some serious engine work on my paperweight, Ill probably focus on the house this year as i need to sort out serious stuff like decorating, getting new fences, carpets, curtains and utter boring stuff like that.

I try and save as much as I can by working on my own cars but I dread to think how much 2nd hand parts would be on and Aston Martin. On a plus note the Jap cars seem to be skyrocketing in price lately, that puts me down by about -£3K on mine. I screwed it up by modifying it; but it was worth it.

Actually it needed about two grands worth of work this week. There was a squeak from engine bay, so tensioner pulley, idler pulley and some brake lines showed some corrosion. So spoke to Aston Martin Edinborouugh where car was purchased so had warranty and said unhappy about this but was happy to get work done at a Specialist if they were happy to foot the bill. Their response we shall post the genuine parts to the specialist free of charge and pay the invoice for the items, also had the wheels re-done in black chrome, so bill was around £1800, but Aston paid just over half. So the service nothing short of astonishing that they supplied parts to a Specialist and then paid said bill, was shocked. Our cost was just wheels and other brake lines as made the decision to refresh the entire car so they won't be an issue again for years to come.

My GTS will be traded in for a 992 (Once PTS is available), as the 991.2 GTS has never come to fruition even though I placed the order for it on Feb 5th.

I'll get the order moved over when my car gets its service, as I assume ill have to sign another load of paperwork.

The M4 - as it's a convertible, and rather tuned, it'll prob not get used much over the winter. So a Euro trip in May/June is def on the cards again for it - followed by show season and I want to get my 1/4 mile times down on it with some practice too. I had thought I'd sell it after 2 years, but I really enjoy this car more than expected!

The Porsche Cayenne S - NC500 in spring for sure! And one wheel needs a refurb

The Track Clio - it's sat gathering dust for months, needs a jump start, an MOT and then back out there next spring for sure!


Keeping eyes on possible M4 replacements as always, but unsure of what yet.

Get the transmission pan replaced on our VW Jetta as it’s apparently rusted through and leaking.

On a more fun note I will be swapping out the summer tyres on the Pickup for something more off road worthy. I’ll also be doing some modifications to fit the truck camper we bought (largely simple electrical stuff for a second battery) and I’m contemplating giving it a small lift (1-2”).

Also dreaming of swapping the suspension to something by Fox/King to absorb the bumps a bit better when on dirt/off road. Not sure I can justify 2.5” shocks with remote reservoirs though. I probably don’t need them...

The aim is to have something a bit more rugged, but still nice to drive and economical* on the road as it spends most of its time there.

*as economical as a 5.0l V8 can be anyway.

Agreed. Sounds interesting, but having watched a few YouTube videos on this subject in the past... expensive. Coaches cost a lot to repair.

I'll be flying the Honda flag against the pugs in the Scottish hillclimb/sprint championship, that's if the car makes it back from setup / mapping in Warrington on time!
Treating it as a shakedown / development season with end goal of improving suspension / chassis. (wider track, smaller brakes, overall diet plan). More grunt than the pugs but can't compete weight wise. Also keeping eyes peeled to pick up a sadev and swap out the dog box.

In the meantime, eyeing up 2015 330d touring m sport xdrive's for a new tow-mobile. Factory fitted tow bars seem to be pretty rare on these (5-700 quid retro) and still trying to figure out what options we're available! Any alternative suggestions up to 20k welcome, only must is an auto/semi box.

I have downpipes already, going to add a Litchfield intercooler, just to keep the broader torque curve for the stage.4.25. Should net me around 670 bhp 620 torque

Then i intend to enjoy my dream car. I have no intensions of selling, I will just keep improving the car throughout the year.

This time next year I plan to have the engine forged and either stage 4.5 or 5. For around 750-800 bhp.not sure yet tbh. I enjoy the GTR so much, and to be honest it is so fast for a heavy car.

Nothing wrong with that, I do all my own work on my cars. Never been to a garage or dealers, unless its for tyres or mot time
