That was epic but I think the umpire bottled the LBW at the end, Australia will rue wasting their review. Lyon fumbled an easy run out under the pressure as well.

Been out all day but keeping up with the score on my phone. Went from thinking we had a chance at the start of the day to thinking it was over when Root got out, to thinking we had a chance again when Stokes and Bairstow got going. When Archer was in you were clutching at straws thinking there might be a chance but when he and Broad got out it was over. An absolutely mental performance from Stokes, on the back of the World Cup, you may as well give him sports personality of the year now.

That was just an innings which is almost incomparable to anything else. Total watchful patience for the first half of it, switched into ODI smash mode like flicking a switch in the second half whilst having to marshall the strike with the tailenders.

You see swashbuckling innings, you see slow patient innings to save/win games, how often do you see both?! To win an Ashes test England had to win as well.......
