Is 8GB of Vram enough for the 3070

So much for that RTX 2080 Ti being so superior.
The force is strong with Ampere and RT, though DLSS is needed above 1080P LOL.

If vram usage just keeps climbing the longer you play, that's called a memory leak - when you have a memory leak the memory in use will keep climbing until it runs out and when it runs out it will crash

it's a software problem not hardware, even if you had 100gb vram it will eventually crash

you should reinstall the game, reinstall drivers etc

I've done this a couple of times using ddu and ccleaner to wipe everything cod related from my pc.

Short of reinstalling windows I'm not sure what else to do really

That is what will likely fix it mate. Whenever I go from AMD to Nvidia or vice versa I always reinstall windows. Typically once a year I do a fresh install anyway. I do not have many programs installed like I used to in the past so the process does not take that long and it is always nice having a fresh install of windows.

Haha. Indeed. I would much rather have a 3070 over a 2080Ti. Nvidia always support the latest gen and the old stuff loses support and optimisation and falls behind. I will be jumping on the 4070 or 4080 when they hit :)

Oh god. I've just upgraded to Windows 11 too. The dreaded reinstall....

Always do clean install, upgrade tends to mess things up in my experience when going from say windows 7 to 8 or 10 to 11.

I could not be asked to do a clean install on my gaming laptop as it has multiple users and wanted to try Windows 11 so did upgrade. It ended up being less snappy then before. Will probably do a clean install at some point though, maybe after Windows 11 has been out for a year just after a new release.

I did a clean install of windows 10 on my desktop a few months back and did not bother with windows 11. I will do a clean install of windows 11 once I get a new hdr monitor sometime this year.

I think I'll just go for it and do a fresh install of Windows 11 now. Screw it. What have I got to lose

Nvidia is saying that the 8GB 3070 is fast as or even faster then the 2080ti which has 11GB of vram

Is having only 8GB of vram going be enough ?

Doesn't Ampere use tensor cores to compress and decompress vram data by up to 40%? So 8Gb vram can store up to 11.2Gb? There was lots of news about this prior to release 2 years ago but then it was all forgotten about. This was supposed to be how they were able to reduce the amount of vram.

I've seen YouTube videos recently comparing Ampere with Turing and the Ampere cards are using less vram with the same resolution and settings.

I have another COD WZ video uploading, it's much bigger as I upped the quality considerably and it is over 40 minutes long.

My max Vram hit was 6.7GB no matter what and I tried to win at the game with my limited knowledge and came 2nd! lol. :D

I was trying to recreate what the guy with the RTX 3090 is experiencing by playing for a much longer time.

I am heading to work in 15 mins and will not be home until after 10pm, at which point I will post the video here.

That would make sense and cover the cards lifespan, surprised more engineer types have not commented on it if it is available to explain.

Cool. I think I've fixed my issue. The game still uses all available vram (like it did on my 1080ti) but I'm not getting any more crashes. I have wz installed on an m2 drive that isn't my windows c drive. There was No paging file set on it so I created one. Issue resolved

Good catch! Would never have thought of that.
