If i buy new Zen 3 cpu, i would get 5800x3d, performance gain in minimum framerates are excellent, and 8 core Zen 3 is enough for many production workloads.

I like to benchmark so the 5900x or 5950x give better results plus I do a bit of rendering. 5900x is cheaper and does better in rendering so its a no brainer for me.

Slightly vague and anecdotal, but the 5800X3D has eliminated fps lows in the online competitive game 'Mechwarrior Online' that I play. And that's 3440x1440 low settings with a 1080Ti. It's now pegged at the screen refresh rate and never moves, it's noticeably smoother.

Mine arrived today, won’t be able to install until later this week. Replacing a 3700x, it’s the increase in the lows that I am most interested in as I game at 4K on a 3080.

Can you post some benches when you get up and running please because I suspect you won't notice much in any difference over a 3700x at 4k but I would be very interested to see a "real users" analysis

I suspect in most cases you are right but I'm betting when that 3080 gets swapped out for a 4080 there will be more benefit. I think it will stay relevant for longer than any other current CPU for gaming.

Tried to capture some of the differences I've noticed in Warzone Caldera 1440P at low/competitive settings since switching from the 5950X to the 5800X3D using videos that I've recorded and uploaded to YouTube.

My 5950X was overclocked using PBO and tuned with curve optimizer to extract the highest frequency/performance possible for gaming. So frequency and power draw are higher than you would typically see from a stock 5950X.

In any scenario where GPU utilisation drops to below 95%, the 5800X3D shines and offers more FPS in this scenario. Sometimes, a lot more FPS. The 1% lows etc are obviously much better too.

The 5800X3D at stock with curve optimiser applied drawing around 50-60W, the 5950X 135-155W in Warzone which is CPU heavy and uses a lot of cores (8 or more (16) depending on how you have your config setup).

Tried running benchmarks on three games. My setup is a 3090 strix oc, 32gb 3600 cl17 and a AMD 3900x stepping up to the 58003XD. AC and Watch dogs were at 1440p and ff15 at 2180p with all graphics options maxed.

On AC Valhalla my old frame rate was an average of 88 fps and this went down to 87 fps on the 58003XD. Think this was a GPU limited game so not much change. FF15 had no change either but Watch Dogs Legion went from an average of 71 fps to 79 fps which is a very good improvement.

Can confirm i noticed no change in Valhalla at 4K max settings, did not test lower resolution/settings yet but it looks like the cache does very little there.

I have a 5800x3d
B550M TUF PLUS - latest bios
32GB (4x8gb) 3200 cl14 Team Dark Pro DDR4

I can achieve the 4.55 by Going into the Advanced Section of bios enabling cppc preffered cores,
and in AMD CBS and I found PBO. I just enabled it and now i get the 4.55 on 2-3 cores.

Also, there is the Manual option which allows you to add ppt edc etc
and a Scaler

Why can I see PBO this chip is supposed to not oc

AMD asked board vendors to disable it, maybe they didn't ask hard enough, do you have Max CPU Boost Clock Override in that BIOS?

Looks like World of Warcraft is another game that loves 3DVcache, 40-50 FPS improvement over Ryzen 5000 series.

That isn't surprising.
Any game that requires lot of stuff to be shuffled would benefit greatly.
I like to see a path of exile comparison to.
Its one of those games that calculates a ton of stuff
oh btw , ITS FREE.....so download and run a test will ya mate?

Blimey that is an improvement. Looks like I made a safe bet on this one, at least for my modest requirements. I'm hoping we can under volt it, more performance with less power and heat is even nicer.

Performance is still atrocious in this game, but it always has been, game has 2007 graphics and only does 200fps at 1080p using the fastest hardware known to man

As for the improvement it's great, focus on the minimums that's a 40% improvement in minimum framerate over any other zen3 cpu. I hope zen4 has 3D cache otherwise it's going to struggle to match these numbers
