Yeah does make for a boring fight but with Islam people know what he is going to do, they just can't stop him. His gameplan was pretty simple, attack the lead leg for 90 seconds, wait for the stance change, dive in for a takedown, maul and man handle for 3 and a half minutes. Total domination. Its not great to watch but hes there to win, not to entertain. I don't think they can change the rules, not sure what can be done other than just hoping they can find someone who can knock him straight out.

Agree on the last sentence. These Russian muslims in particular are very easy to dislike.

The balance between wrestling and grappling is wrong at the moment at the highest level of the sport
I think the problem is damage and commitment to submissions.
Islam was happy to sit in half guard the entire fight and just fight off JDM's attempts to move.
Looking at the fight stats on strikes, it actually looks like a competitive and close fight, but we all know thats not the case.

I don't think they can change the rules,
I think they can enforce the rules in this situation though. My point above of Islam was not trying to damage, submit or even advance half the time, he was happy to counter JDM's attempts to get up.
Khamzat never really had this problem until DDP because he was always looking to damage and submit.

Agreed.
Now I dont want to bring up ***** Danis, but the russians absolutely mobbed him and it was unacceptable. So easy to dislike when they are so prone to gang violence.

In general I find the UFC very hard to enjoy these days with way Dana has crawled up the backside of the Maga cult. He was an ****hole anyway, but all the Trump bootlicking is utterly nauseating. I won't be watching the White House event.

The bent fight recently is right out of the Maga playbook, the more brazen the corruption, the better.

Ooh I will be watching this one...

Paddy Pimblett will fight Justin Gaethje for the interim lightweight title at UFC 324 in Las Vegas on 24 January.

Will be a good one fo sho. They both have a solid chin and Gaethje's wrestling is pretty solid. Paddy the better submission game which I think could swing it.

Poor Tsarukyan - I suppose you could argue Paddy had a more impressive win over Chandler than Tsarukyan had over Hooker
I'd say its a stretch to make that arguement but I do think both Paddy and Tsarukyan are the most compelling options for Ilia, Tsarukyan from an actual threat to the title and Paddy for the spectacle and build up.

Due to the ESPN era coming to a close which ran from early 2019 to the end of this year it got me thinking a bit and was curious to know what others thought.

Overall when I look back the at the last 6 years of the UFC it's been fairly naff both from the excitement from event to event and the promotions choices of match making and direction seemingly making fights that make less and less sense as time goes on which btw... isn't necessarily a new thing with the promotion they've obviously always had a preference and haven't had much of a care to hide that.

But I think back to the time of the previous broadcast era's when I started watching Spike/Fox and those era's of the UFC to me had very defined character, identity and a sense of what they were.

Today the focus for the UFC on churning out maximum volume of fights, build a product that is cost effective to them (paying bugger all to the vast majority of the roaster) to fill slots on air just left me feeling a bit deflated and losing interest over the last few years, maybe it's just more of a reflection on the way entertainment products/media is presented to us in the current climate and is a sympton seen in all sports.. idk just spitballing. Thoughts?

Can certainly agree its overloaded and lost some star power, but at the same time I love having a weekly UFC fix. Its really the only sport I am into and we do have some great names and fun match ups.

I will soon be paying £20 to see Paddy the baddy and Justin, even if it starts at 5am in the morning although box office and UK UFC should never be a thing for us brits due to time zone.

I haven't missed an event live since Brock and Mir at UFC 100:D

Justin has to fight the perfect fight imo and that is hard for 25 minutes. Lets face it really is his last shot of gold, also retirement talks/rumours we know he has been vocal about it for ages, he either gets the next shot or walks.

Paddy has size, reach, youth and chin and barely any wear and tear on him. All paddy has to do is make it a dirty dog fight and find an opening and work his grappling game, once he has it on the ground its his time. I reckon Paddy either gnp on the ground or sinks a rear naked choke.
