*** The Official iPhone 17 thread (it has new camera bumps and everything!) ***

I ended up pulling the trigger. Delivery tomorrow hopefully.

I go for black every time anyways.
Yeah I've saved my basket, which has the Black 17 in it. The other colours just don't gel with me at all. Enjoy the new toy!

Just got a 17PM. I was surprised to see it's very similar size to the Pixel 6 Pro (first numbers) I had but just a bit heavier, looked way bigger when I saw one in a store.

163.9 x 75.9 x 8.9 mm (6.45 x 2.99 x 0.35 in)
VS
163.4 x 78 x 8.8 mm (6.43 x 3.07 x 0.35 in)

I cannot believe there is no Whatsapp preview widget on ios, like going back to the dark ages. I like the phone though, just got a case on it today and a screen protector which I've never bothered with previously. Not bothering with Applecare due to the excesses involved (and relying on my never broken a phone record).

It's £25 for a smashed screen, and £79 for other damage such as liquid, what did it cost you for a hideous case and screen protector?

First of all, it’s a Phone, not a fashion item (£30 to answer the question)

Secondly, it’s also a monthly fee on top of that so depending on when it happened would depend how much it cost me overall, granted it would be less than what the phone cost but whatever.
So most likely at the end of two years, the total cost for me will still be £30 instead of £179.

Hopefully in two years I can have some basic functional things back like multi level volume management.

True, but the vast majority of cases are ugly, bulky and wear far quicker than a phone would so need replacing. They also trap dirt and cause a lot of scratches, and screen protectors are hideous things - some even stop the new coating on the phone from being effective.

But you have no cover, case + screen protector doesn't make it invulnerable and the cost to repair outside of AC+ is not economically viable.

You are correct, I’m relying on my 24 year streak going unbroken. It’s like with all these kind of things isn’t it, It’s a waste of money until you need it, but then I could just buy it couldn’t I? And wait a few days and then claim in an event.

Can only get it within 60 days.

Those scallywags. I don’t know why I’m surprised, but I guess they do that because of the exact reason I just said.

Ok tbf sound reasoning all round, if I took the £30 off the two year cost it would only be £149.

The piece of mind AppleCare gives is second to none imho. My 15 Pro fell out of pocket getting out of the car and broke the back glass.

Booked an appointment for a couple days later, spent 10-15 minutes doing some paperwork and diagnostics on the phone with them, sodded off for an hour to do some shopping and came back with it as good as new for a grand total of £25. On top of that if they can't repair for any reason you walk out same day with a replacement

Another great thing about AC+ is that your premium doesn’t go up if you claim. I used house insurance to claim for iPad damage a few years ago and I’ve been paying through the nose for it ever since since it has to be declared. And the process wasn’t exactly straightforward either, felt like I was being interviewed by the police and it took days if not weeks to settle.

I’d love to use my iPhone without a case but it’s too damn slippy!

I use the apple silicon case and it’s fine. When it wears call Apple and they replace free of charge.

Guys, I'm just about to bite the bullet on 2 x Pro Maxs. What is people's experience with Apple's trade-in? As in how much generally will they knock off the price they 'offer'? I have sold my 15 privately, but I still have my wife's 14 Pro still. I could do without the hassle of selling, so I was considering trading it in. Apple have estimated it to be worth £270, it's in great condition, but not sure if they scrutinise everything, ie battery health, blemishes, etc?

Ta!

I’ll read the small print shortly, but I’m wondering if I buy two years but I only keep the phone for one. Can I transfer it to another iPhone?
I guess I could just do it monthly to mitigate that, but obviously I’ll pay more if I do keep it longer than the year

I’ve found Apple’s trade in to be excellent and the last time I used it (trading in my 13 PM) I got pretty similar to what I would have selling private and without the faff.
Unless there’s something obvious like a crack on front or back or a really bad dent I’ve never known Apple to undercut their original quote.
It’s all stated on their trade in t&c’s anyway but I believe battery health has to be >80% but don’t quote me on that.

Thanks. I think it’s about 77% so not sure if that will be a killer. I’ll do some more research. We don’t have an Apple Store nearby so not really a case of taking it in and getting a valuation face to face.
