** The Official 8800GT 512/256mb Review/Overclocking Thread **

So whats the Average Clock?

735 Core?
1000 Memory?
1750 Shaders?

700/1750/2000 seems fairly common.

I was just reading this from the famed JonnyGURU, ummm right oh.

2000MHz memory OC is easy with this card BUT the overclock won't hold long term.

The memory is actually 2GHz, but the interface can't handle the speed for long periods. This has been tested by Nvidia, their OEM's and some partners over several weeks. The card will run like a bat out of hell for a while and then suffers irrepairable damage.

Just look at XFX. These guys overclock anything regardless of yield (I guess they don't take the overhead of support into account when they sell stuff) and they're only at 1950MHz on their highest OC card (Alpha Dog).

I would only crank the memory up to 2GHz plus to get a killer benchmark and then crank it back down to 1900~1950MHz for day to day use.

Well, im extremely impressed with my new 8800GT, the previous card being an X1950Pro. Its quite a performance increase.
I have had some isses with the upgrade though....I used drivercleaner to remove the Ati drivers, but Call of Duty 2 did not run correctly on the 8800GT - The image quality was low, and bringing up the console, the text was illegible. I tried starting it in safe mode and resetting all the graphics/texture settings, but it didnt fix it. An uninstall/re-install did however sort that issue out.
My main problem however was on Enemy Territory QuakeWars, which ran fine on the 1950Pro, but on the 8800GT was an absolute dog, we are talking not enough frame rate to smoothly move the mouse around the weapon selection screen, and actualy in the game it was unplayable, at about 5 fps. A re-install did not fix it, but in the end, a google search found the fix. I found someone saying not to run ETQW in dual monitor mode, so quickly into the Nvdia control panel, disabled the second monitor output, fired up the game, and amazingly it was then perfect. Very strange to have to disable the 2nd monitor output, and something I didnt have to do on the Ati card, but considering Ive probably doubled my performance, I will live with it !.....its only a couple of clicks of the mouse before and after the game I guess. Not had a problem on any other game.
Im not sure, but I dont think this issue is specific to the 8800GT (the google hit was a month or so old, so couldnt have been a 8800gt card that that user had), but to all Nvidia 8 series cards.

Hi,

Tried putting the memory / shader up more but it kept locking during 06.

Best i could do was 770/2022/1802 with a score of 13621

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=3642157

Going to put it back to 700 for regular use (before I end up knackering it)

Is that core/shader/memory you have there? 2022 on the shader is quite high, you just cained the crap out of my GTX in 3DMark.

I had to change it to single display performance mode, that made it work fine, try that when I used dual monitor I never needed to disable one.

Is the hardware the same on the BFG8800GT OC and OC2? Just the BIOS file that is different? Could you put an OC2 bios on the O and effectively have an OC2?

^^Legend! :) cheers dude.

Anyone got a link to an OC2 BIOS? :) or if anyone with an OC2 fancy posting it here please :P?

Possible silly question lol... on techpowerup they have an EVGA superclocked version with the same spec as the BFG OC2 spec... would it be possible to put the evga on the bfg? surely they cannot be too different at all?

I've been hoping somebody would post a normal BFG 8800GT Bios on here, so I could flash my card, which came with the wrong bios!

Anyway, been waiting too long now, got an RMA set for today, they should have more in stock tomorrow so gunna get down and take the card out in a few mins, and box it up, and send it back, and hope the next BFG 8800GT OC, actually has the BFG 8800GT OC bios in it, not just the standard NVIDIA one ;)

V1N.

(Who's to bet somebody posts a BFG bios up here shortly now, either OC or better, OC2 - just AFTER I RMA my card) ;)

Is this a setting in-game , or a nvidia control panel setting. Is it something that will allow me to run the game without the messing around of switching it completely off and then back on again ?

Its in NVCP, and yes it should stop you having to disable second display output :)

I had the problem in ET:QW, Doom3, Prey and Quake 4.

Thanks a lot for the 2000 memory post, it definitely confirms my findings, can't get 2000 stable at all, shaders have quite a bit of headroom though :)
