hmm

Trouble is, arent the people who buy standard Q6600's risking buying a `binned` one that you've previously tested that didnt quite hit the mark? (meaning there's now a nigher percentage of poorer cpu's than normal)

Also, if these are Retail packets, what happens to the ones you test and fail? Do they now get repackaged as OEM (as the seal will be broke)

Or do they all just run at 3Ghz anyway, hence you dont even have to break the seals??

cheers

Very interesting questions and theory there mate. Wouldn't mind some answers to these.

And yes, I'm well aware that most Q6600's do 3GHz fine anyway. It's just pleasing to see OcUK doing something similar to what they did many years ago.

I would presume there will be some T&C's for this though.

What if the chip is stable in one machine at the "Guaranteed" speed and not in another (due to mobo/cooling/memory limitations)?

Im not even going to comment on this.

I understand when the shop was first set up with not that many people interested in performace and getting more out of your PC back then but now...*drags myself away from keyboard*

This would certainly put me off buying a `normal` Q6600 from ocuk, knowing that all the best ones are in another bin.

It would put me off buying an OEM chip but then I would never do that now anyway seeing as there is only a few pound difference, The retail chips are going to be just the same as they were before.

I really have to agree here. On top of that, if they have been "tested" then you are basically paying a premium for a second hand cpu. It's been used so it's not new any more. In any case, i have yet to see one fail to hit 3ghz so really what is the point?

Lets not even mention the £11.94 for the "OCUK Overclocking Guide"!!

Hi there

OcUK are not speed binning!

These CPU's are not tested and as such not retail processors are opened and then put into OEM.

Because as you guys know all Q6600 will hit 3GHz and all of the SLACR stock we have has no issues with 3.30GHz.

We are doing this for the customers who are not maybe quite so knowledgable as you chaps and want the confidence that they can buy and be able to hit such speeds and if they need help they can simply call our tech guys to be walked through setting it all up.
