Post your hard drive benchmarks!

Can anyone shed some light on this. Got the Asus p5k permium board and was running 2 x 200GB in a raid0. Min was 85mb/s, max was around 125mb/s an average was 100mb/s.

Destroyed raid and created a new volume with 4 x 200GB's. And my average has gone upto 115mb/s!! WTF!! Max read 144mb/s.

Stripe is 128k. 4 x maxtor 200GB's. installed INF drivers on Vista 64.

2Gb volume. must be ram drive?

I changed block size to 64gb and hit 208mbs/peak and 145mb/s average. Looking better.

Everything loads quickly.

From those results it looks like you've got a bottleneck somewhere, you'd expect the performance to drop off, so maybe it's lower at the start than it should be.

I know what you mean, but I think its its exactly what I expect for 3 36gb 15KII's without cache 2 gets 175. I have 8x36GB in my system 2x73GB 15K II's all the scsi's together off two contollers. Most are in raid 10 far quicker than raid 0 access wise with redundancy.

With 2 raptors in raid 0 they just dont cut it though for mutlitasking as well as the scsi's.

finally decided to get my drives and build my media/storage server.

4 x 1TB Western Digital GP RE2 FYPS
Perc 5/i flashed to LSI 8408E SAS + 512mb cache (from ebay for 2 pounds

)
DFI NF4 board

very happy with the drives, performance is pretty good considering the drives green specs and the fact theres only 4 of them initially. speed isn't my primary concern hence the GP RE2 drives - reliability, scalability and acoustics is most important for my needs with this project.

raid 5 array was built in ~4hrs and they're more quiet than my single 7200.10 (quiet batch).

Which Dell controller are you using? I've got the Perc 4e/dc and can't get above 165MB/s irrespective of number of drives :(
