Far from it - how more calm could he have been in the last race!!!
One start this season he has messed up, give it a rest!!

What I mean is if he has any chance to make a place he is going to go for it, he takes big risks a lot of the time.

I'm not saying its a bad thing, it is what makes him such a strong driver. But it always put the race on edge at the start!

I await the Trulli train with Alonso all over the back of Hamilton (after Heikki gets passed by Alonso)

The other consideration is that BECAUSE LH is in the leading pack (rather than on Pole) he HAS to measure his start a bit more (with the liklihood of at least 3 cars ahead of him at the first corner)

Completely different situation than Japan

However if there is rain at the start of the race, that could cause problems around him

If its cool weather, Ferrari and Kimi cant back up LH into the pack that much, as its more likely the McLaren getting an easier passing move (due to the tyre situation with the Ferrari's not working well in cold temps)

Massa has to push if risk of rain is as realistic as it seems, if there isnt any rain then hopefully a calm start from everyone LH jus has to allow Trulli to pit early even if Alonso forces his way through,

Should make for an interesting race, lets just hope there isnt any suspicious coming together or dodgy penalty decisions from the stewards

i think Hamilton and Kovalainen are running alittle more fuel than others. Im all for Kovalainen to slot in behind lewis before the first corner and keep alonso back. Not that he should have to worry about alonso! but alas some people have no spotsmanship.

Its strange how most of you seem to be very weary of Alonso. Has Alonso EVER hit Hamilton on the track? I always recall Alonso as being a calm character on track (except for Monaco 2008 where he was haphazard).

In fact, I think you will find that it is Hamilton that has been a loose cannon on a few occassions and whacked other cars.

I wouldnt worry at all about Alonso. Though I would worry about Hamilton pannicking if he sees Alonso go past him. Hamilton is more likely to hit Alonso than the reverse.

Massa might be carrying 1 lap less fuel than the rest, but I feel his speed is genuine. I said it before the GP weekend started that Massa will be immense this weekend and a win for him is almost a given. Unless it rains. ;)

What I found funny during the ITV1 commentary was that they actually believed that Heikki could do anything to protect Hamilton. I'm thinking Heikki just isnt fast enough to do anything to help Hamilton. Even if they short fuelled him by about 5 laps, he would probably still be slower than the Ferraris during the race. He just isnt in the same league as Hamilton or the 2 Ferraris. Hamilton, as usual, is on his own and McLaren shouldnt delude themselves into believing that Heikki is capable of playing any part in deciding the Constructors or Drivers title. I'm bemused why he wasnt replaced for 2009 and I'm equally bemused why Kimi wasnt replaced by Alonso.

And a question: why is it that Trulli is able to qualify so high up (regularly) and then go so slow during the race? It doesnt make any sense to me. Can someone explain this to me please?

I doubt it.

Massa is immense on this track. He has consistently been the fastest driver on this track for the last 3 years. Add to this the fact that the Ferraris are very fast on this track, means that Massa is able to go about 0.35s/lap faster than anybody else, in qualifying.

Nice lap by massa, be very interesting to see how light he is, and whether that plays against him if the conditions are changeable rather than outright wet/dry.

Reckon Hamilton will do the job in the end though, assuming Alonso doesn't do something silly.

EDIT: kinda in response to sunama, don't think Alonso will do anything to bad, but he could/would force Hamilton off track, he's done it before when he was on the same team, let alone when he's not on the same team and seems keen to impress ferrari.

Nice qualifying, great atmosphere at the track, Lewis in the pack is always a danger if he uses his Senna abilities then I am sure he will be fine haha.

But that hasn't been the case all weekend has it, apart from Quali 3 when fuel levels became a factor?

Personally I think LH has the pace, but just stuffed it up in the last session.

Its just a thought in the back of the mind, re-assured by his clear dislike of Lewis and McLaren, and the fact he wants Massa to win.
I don't think he will do anything, I hope he won't do anything. But it could.
As Murray used to say, "anything can happen in F1, and it usually does"

As to Trulli. No idea how he is always so slow come race day. Its usually because he brims it at some point and always ends up coming out of the pits in front of people. Guess we will see tomorrow how he handles being at the sharp end of the grid.

Rain at some point in the race will be exciting, I want it to start dry though with *** teams having to guess when the rain will come.
