Virginmedia expected to make their 50mb announcement today

Its quite amusing - all through the newsgroups when the 50Mb was announced, the so called management were in there saying no throttling would be introduced as it was on the new docsis so the network would be fine.....

And now we read all the posts in here......classic VM.

as far as i know they arent managed yet. all the posts in here seem to lead towards issues getting the 50Mbp in the first place.

Its blatantly obvious they will introduce throttling for 50mb. Why would they not? Don't see the point in having a 50mb connection. I save my money and just download over night with a 10mb line.

Atm i am getting 20 meg for £22 a month i can't see the point in shelling out £30 more for 50 meg, my con here is fantastic full speeds all the time apart from stm.

Did you have to call Virginmedia to sort it out or did it settle down on it's own as my friend is on the Hayes server and he has the same problem with speeds jumping about.

It seems to have sorted itself out. Just done a test now (Peak time) and got:

40ms ping
50201mbit download
1650mbit upload

so spot on what I should be getting. I've been testing every now and again everyday and different times and have been getting solid results for a week or so. I think it was an initial teething problem.

I'm not even sure our wireless G router could cope with it?

You get a Netgear router Wireless-N :).

Thanks Mr MeatBall

I've told him to give it a week or so and see how it goes before calling Virginmedia. He also has a ping over 40ms i'm not sure if thats correct for 50mb but it can't be good for gaming.

I get my 50mb installed next week :)

theres mine (20mb) nice 15ms ping but have seen it at 10ms before though (rare)

EDIT: done it! 10ms :D but slow d/l speed for some reason :(
